Is the Lamson Fly Trap heavy? Does it do the job?
I don’t find it too heavy. During the summer I wear a long sleeve Serengeti style shirt and I just attach it to the left pocket. I don’t think they are being made anymore however, I can’t find any reference to them on the internet from any shop or business.

The small one is probably twice as heavy as a chunk of fleece. In other words, not heavy at all.
I’ve had the same vest for going on 10 years now and have had a flytrap attached for probably 8. Wouldn’t know how to work any other system.
As Larry mentioned, they’re not easily available any more.
Just about any fly shop should be able to get you one.

I have one on my vest, and one on my pack. Much more secure mounting system than anything else comparable. I quite frequently fish with just the few flies I carry in it. Sooooo convenient, and built to last. I glued some “refrigerator magnet” material to the inside back for small flies, and I never lose flies anymore. Those things will pay for themselves in a hurry just by not losing flies to the mysterious built in fly ejector common to foam or fleece patches. They’re one gadget I wiill never do without!
I had one several years ago. It certainly weighed a lot more than two fleece patches, but wasn’t objectionably heavy. My main disappointment was with the foam and the slightly curved shape. My flies tended to work their way out of the foam during the day. I switched to a C&F pin-on “patch” and never looked back. These are featherlight and have the same micro-slit foam as their regular boxes. For larger flies, there is a saltwater model.
