Has anyone our there have experience with Lamiglas blanks. If so, how do you like the blank? I want to make a 4wt rod that has a fast action and I am considering Lamiglas. Anyone built one with a Lamiglas Blank?
I’m sure somone will argue with me, but I don’t think they are known for any ‘fast’ blanks.
Agree with JC. One of (all were) the slower blanks we have used.

In 1990 I built a first generation Lamiglass rod 5/6 wt 8 1/2’( my first build)and fished it hard for the next ten years. It is still a fine rod today – by my tastes. It is much slower than most modern graphite rods. The newer rods are certain to be compleatly different animals, but if they have the same quality today, then you will have a quality blank — if you like the action.

I have built a few of the Lamiglass but only in the fiberglass series, and I anticipate building quite a few more. They are very pleasing to cast. I do know that some of their graphite series blanks are very well thought of in a lot of areas, but I have never heard them referred to as fast action, or tip flex. would be interesting to see one from them like that.
I agree with DLeo. The fiberglass blanks are about the only reasonably priced glass blanks available.
Actually, I believe the XMG 50 /Espirit Series are all fast action fly rods.
That is what they claim.
James,
Do you feel the xmg 50’s are not fast? I have only seen measurement for a 9’0" 8 wt XMG 50 (which I have on order by the way) and it has an Action Angle of 70 which is a bit slower than the Dan Craft FT’s which run in the high 70’s and about the same as the Sage TCR’s which range from 65-73.
Hey, all I meant was what I wrote, “It’s what they claim.” I know Lami and the guys there, in fact, they were sponsors here for a few years. Power, strength and progressive action were the strong points for years. If you now think they make a high-speed, crisp, fast action rod in the same class as the Sage TCR,so be it.
Dean,
maybe you can come back here and report on how you feel after building your XMG.
Regards,
Todd
