Lake Erie King (Carnage variation) SBS

Not sure if there’s any difference between the Lake Erie and Au Sable King; both appear to be attributed to Michigan tyer Ann Schwiegert. Found a cool extended body version from Davie McPhail

For all the great properties that peacock herl has to offer, floatability is not one of them; this one adds a bit more durability and positive buoyancy.

hook ? Dai Riki 135 #12
thread - Danville 6/0 black
core - 10lb mono
underbody ? 1mm foam black
abdomen - peacock herl
wing - hackle tips grizzly hen
thorax - peacock herl
hackle - grizzly

Part 1

put a loop in the end of mono

mash barb, start thread at point above point (leave tag end long); tie in mono

tie in peacock herl; hook loop onto gallows

wrap peacock and thread tag up the loop (shank length past bend) and back down

tie in foam strip (about 1/3 gap width - you don’t want a thick underbody)

brush on a little Super Glue (too much and it’ll wick up the mono past where the peacock is tied down)

wrap the foam up the core

brush on a little more Super Glue and wrap back down; tie off/trim

Part 2

twist herl around tag end of thread (you can see a little wicking action on the mono core; it’ll get snipped off); wrap down underbody, tie off/trim, trim mono

measure (tips to rear of abdomen) a pair of hackle tips; tie in, separate with cross wraps, tie down

tie in hackle

tie in peacock; wrap thorax, tie off/trim

wrap hackle, tie off/trim, whip finish, SHHAN

Part 3

trim hackle underneath
