Got three steelhead flies tied, a pattern that came to me this morning while thinking of nothing related to flyfishing. So, I would like to join, the name of the fly to come later. My wife likes it so much that it is going to be named after her.
Thanks Diane.
Paul
I tweaked the recipe a bit after tying some more tonight. The changes are edited into my original recipe post. I think what I have now is the right combination of color, style, effort, and (hopefully) fishy-ness.
Recipe for the “Sage Blossom”
Got them tied.
This is a steelhead flie I designed for my wife, but I bet you folks could catch many other species with it.
Hook - Dai-Riki #270 size 6
Thread - lavender sewing thread (tried red, light blue and yellow, but the lavender looks the best)
Weight - fifteen wraps .015
Tail - olive yak hair
Rib - gold crinkled wire
Abdomen - purple antron trilobal chenille
Thorax - peacock herl
Underwing - chartreuse fuzzy fiber over dark pink krystal flash
Overwing - gold thread over purple fox squirrel tail
have fun!
Sounds like a great fly. A native New Orleans stated it sounds wonderful and would fit in with the Bacchus krewe or Elks Parade on Mardi Gras day. I look forward to seeing it. Thanks for joining.

My flies are in the mail. I hope you like these. I do not include one to be sent back to me. I did include some extras for the great Swapmeister. Thanks again for letting me join in on this one. John
mailed with extras for the Swapmeister. Enjoy!
I would like to get in on this swap. Don’t know what the fly is called, it just works in the lakes around here. But, it is basicly a bead head soft hackle.
Thanks for joining. Sounds like a fly that works here, too. I’ve had a lot of luck in the spring with soft hackles.
Diane
Gardenfish, your flies arrived. Nice batch. I believe you’re right…I bet they would work in our local trout streams as well as Steelheads. Thank you for the extras. They look awesome.
Diane
Your flies arrived today, John. They look marvelous. Thank you for joining the swap.
Diane
Thanks for the update Diane, and thanks for your comments. Thanks also for letting me join in on this one. John
my pleasure, DIane. You run a good swap and your swap ideas really get me to thinking creatively.
Paul
Put me down for a Mardi Gras Streamer. Now all I have to do is figure out what the heck that is.

Thank you for the comment, Gardenfish. I couldn’t do it without help from all of you.
George, thanks for joining. I love the idea of a Mardi Gras Streamer. Can’t wait to see it…
Diane

I’ll tie mine with some beads left over from last year’s Mardi-Gras Bead Swap that I hosted…if there’s still room.

Yes, there’s still room, and thanks for joining.
I’ll send my address as a PM later tonight to everyone.
