An emerger or stillborn, depending if you see the glass as half full/empty; change colors to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 320 #14
thread - MFC 8/0 sand
shuck - Congo Hair beige
abdomen - dubbing hare’s ear
shellback - razor foam tan (original used packing foam)
rear hackle - barred cream
front hackle - partridge (original used mallard flank; my supply in smaller sizes is lacking)

Part 1

mash barb, start thread, tie in CH, fold back, wrap to bend

trim foam strip (about 1/2 gap width); tie in

dub thread/dub body

pull foam forward; tie off/trim

Part 2

tie in hackle; wrap, tie off/trim

prep partridge, tie in by tip, strip barbs from one side; stroke fibers back while wrapping

tie off/trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

Thanks for putting this fly on the site (great tie by the way, Scott). I tied and used it with great success a number of years ago after I got one of La Fontaine’s books that described it. For whatever reason, I forgot about it and haven’t used it for quite a while. I need to tie some and fish it again. Very effective pattern.
