Wire Head Stone Fly Nymph video coming to you soon… stay tuned…
NICE! I really like it.
Doug,
Nice fly; looks like a fish-catcher, simple to tie. The kind of fly you’d fish down in the rocks and not care if you lose a few.
Regards,
Scott
Here are a couple of photos of the Wire Heads using UV resin to coat the head after it has been formed by the wire. This makes an extremely durable and shinny head.
Here I 'm using a UV light for curing the resin on this Wire Head.
Finished Wire Heads and a Korn’s WH Stone Fly Nymph.
A “Kornucopia” of WH Stones…
Those are nice and buggy looking. I bet fish just slurp those up.
Thanks dr. korn for sharing that with us.
Aauugghhh !!! I looked directly into the UV light !!!
That’s a really neat idea. They looked great before the UV blinded me.
I knew I shouldn’t have posted that photo. I was afraid someone might look directly into the light… and now you’ve gone and done it…
Take tomorrow off from work and go fishing “doctor’s orders” and you’ll be fine…
That reminds me…what sort of “dr” are you? Do you have a Phd in fishology? A Phd in tyology? or one in troutology?
Or, is dr short for Drumond? Need I say: “LOL”?
Nope, none of the above Byron… My initials are D.R.K. - when I was a teenager it was a nick name. Some of my friends called me “Doc”, or “the Doctor”… because of the DR… Douglas Robert… so it stuck till I got older… now nobody calls me Doc anymore… so when I joined FAOL I thought I’d use it
BUT I do wish I had my doctorate in troutology at times.
Oh and while I’m explaining names the 55dougie is because I was born in 1955… So I’m a 55dougie, like a car is a 57Chevy…
Thanks for sharing the wire bead idea. I seem to always be out of the size metal bead I want or need. Last night I pulled a couple of strands from a harvested coaxial shield cable, which was tinned copper I suspect wrapped it on a hook, added some sparkly clear nail polish and a top coat. It looks great maybe got a little big.
there ya go…
I occurs to me you can take your needlenose pliers and mash that into a flat oval shape which would be more of a natural shape for a nymph’s head. If you desire a smoother finish the Fabric Fusion fill in and smooth out a lot of the contour and will dry relatively quickly. I happen to have several bottles of various shades of brown fingernail polish inherited from my daughter. If you don’t have a daughter make friends with a teenage or 20 something young lady, they probably have a box of “no longer cool” polish colors. You might stay out of trouble better if you ask for your wife’s help if you have one of those.
