Body can be tied in red, yellow, chartreuse, etc.
hook - TMC 5212 #10
thread - Danville 6/0 brown
tail - deer hair dyed dark brown
body - Uni-stretch orange
body hackle - brown (undersize by 2)
wing - deer hair dyed dark brown
hackle - brown

In that color it looks more like a PFD. Tied with an orange foam strip wound up the shank to replace the Uni-stretch and one could hang a dropper with a large, tungsten bead head. It’s a good-looking fly, well tied and well photographed.

This pattern is based on the Kolzer Dark Caddis. An old McKenzie River Oregon pattern originated by John Kolzer. It was unusual for a caddis pattern with its upright wing. The Kolzer Dark Caddis had a orange yarn or body and I believe a single upright wing. Anyway it’s a great old pattern.

Thanks for the info. I’ve seen pics of the single wing version, some slanting forward almost Bomber style - it’d save a step or 2 in the tying sequence, and I doubt the fish would care either way.
