There is a large stonefly in the Pine Creek region calle the Knobbed stonefly, never saw one this big before. found in the upper areas of cedar run and slate run last year. fly is a sz. 2 hook, slightly larger than the actual insect but it works in the deep holes. size 8 hook with real thing.
Great looking tie. I bet that will work just fine.
Great looking fly.I hope to be fishing there this spring

You can’t fish there, that’s where I’m going to be in the spring. Ha! Ha!
make sure you all stop by and say Hello…
The Knobbed stonefly looks a lot like the big salmonflies we have on a lot of our freestone cricks out here, Bob.
Wondering if a couple of them got stuck in the Jet Stream at some point ??
Your fly is pretty cool. Gets me to thinking about stringing some beads on the extended body of my JARS nymph. And that is going to give me a headache, for sure.
John
they are in the same family Pteronarcys.
This thread is worthless without an SBS. Beautiful fly
Bob,
Had a fly snagged in some rocks on a MD freestone stream; when I pulled it out there was a big nymph, similar to yours, stuck on the hook. I was never sure if it was accidental or the nymph was trying to eat my fly (lol); it certainly appeared capable. Never have seen the adults; they may be nocturnals
Regards,
Scott
Now that puts a whole new slant on “nymph fishing” Scott!
Cheers,
C.
