I just learned that the DNR plans to poison Kneff Lake and re-stock it with 1000 yearling Rainbow Trout this spring. To many invasive species are inhibiting the growth of the resident trout.
It’ll take a couple of years for them to grow up but we can always use it for swimming and casting practise!
Don’t forget the Michigan Fish-In August 14th to the 20th. The Holy Water’s of the Au Sable await you!!
I had thought you already knew that, I seen that in the link you posted a while back…Shame for the loss of the Grayling, Are there any other places in MI that have a Grayling population ?
Indiana has a number of small trout lakes. One year they poisoned my favorite 6 acre pond in the fall. The water froze and when it thawed in the spring the stocked 1000 new trout died. The poison held over to spring because of the ice.
They did this at my pond, and it ruined the warm water fishery. The only trout that can live there dont esablish a population, so they must be stocked yearly. Once the summer comes, they die. Before, there were bass and crappie and carp to be caught. Now there are so few of each type of fish, that although they are large, they have seen every lure and bait and they will not bite anything short of a live native shiner. Its really a shame. I cant tell you how many times ive seen a family fish their all day and go home dissapointed.
