There is an article by Hans van Klinken in the most recent issue of Fly Fisherman about his Klinkhamer Special fly design. In the article he mentions niche silicone yarn for the wing. I tried all the usual yarn/craft shops and all I got was that “1000 mile stare” when I mentioned the yarn. Does anyone know where it can be obtained?? I suspect it’s a common name in Europe, but apparently not here.
Thanks,
SweetStreamS
Use calf tail, its only a wing post. ![]()
Polypro yarn is also a good substitute. ![]()
Heres an article written by the author that states “poly yarn”
S3,
The yarn referenced is called Siliconized Polypropylene. It is marketed by a small mail order firm in the UK called Niche Products http://www.nicheflytying.com/
It is a very fine strand yarn, and comes in a range of colors. Excellent stuff!
Cheers,

Hans,
Thanks for the information on the niche products. We missed you at the Conclave.

Greetings SweetStreamS,
I’m just downriver a bit in Winchester. I managed to be out ff’ing during the best of the rains today. Have you been doing anything up the North lately?
Cheers,

Hi Moose,
Only been here for three months. Due to Oregon’s quaint law on residency for a fishing license I won’t get one until mid November. I know it’s heresy, when you live near the beautiful N. Umpqua, but I’m mainly a trout fisherman. I’ve done my share of Steelheading, but am older now and don’t wade so well. I have been doing a lot of scouting for fishing spots on the upper North Umpqua and the Willamette. I have been doing some tying of flies for donation to the Northern California Conclave and the annual dinner for my former club. Hope you had some luck in the rain.

Hello again SweetStreamS,
I know what you mean and I’m mainly a trouter myself but while searching them out around here I found bass and steelhead fairly easily on the fly. Now after 7 years here I have quite a few places I know about for trout. Lemme know if you want to check some of them out sometime. Feel free to prvt msg also.
Cheers,
