KISS dry fly

KISS is an acronym for “keep it simple stupid,” used as a high-level design goal by computer programmers.
The following two flies have three materials: thread, CA glue and squirrel tail. The glue is a requirement. The hackle fibers won’t stay at right angles to the shank without it. #16 hook. 14/0 thread. Fox squirrel. ZapCA. I made the hair fibers surround the shank here, in traditional Catskill fashion. I’ll have to experiment with a few tied Sparkle Dun style. Maybe later today.

nicely done. always like those nice & simple flies, my kind of flies  Just curious though how well using squirrel for a dry fly worked out? Do you add a floatant to them?

Mike

Simple to look at? Yes, but I don’t really think so ‘simple’ to tye. Anyway, I’m not sure those flies float very well. Have you tried fishing them? That’s JMO.

Allan

The fly with the butt ends out floats well enough. The ones with the fine ends out floats better.

Interesting flies Pitt. Were they on the Lempke video? LOL
