Just wondering if any one could point me in the right direction for trail maps, camp grounds, etc… I will be back packing for a couple of days and would like to make it up to that area for the first time. I have Gold on my mind.
If you need info on non-resident fishing licenses for CA, just let us know.
There are guides in that area and a small airport nearby that allows camping on the field (and fishing along the edge of the airport where the river passes by). There’s also a big lake on the river and guides available (lodging as well I think).
Fireman,
I’d like to add to Thwack’s link and highly recommend you sign on and
post questions on the board for http://www.kernriverflyfishing.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl
The folks on there are almost as great as the folks on this one .
Q
Your thread reminded me of fishing in that area back in the middle 60’s. I was stationed at Norton AFB in San Bernardino and loved to fish the eastern slope streams of the Sierra Nevada’s. One of my favorit spots was up in the foothills just north of Lone Pine. Did not get that much of a chance to fish because of 12 hour days , 6 days a week and rotating shifts on top of that.
I registered on the Kern site just now and almost instantly received the activation email. Did you maybe miss the agreement below the terms/conditions that you have to click before you can really register? (you have to switch it from the default of not agreeing with the terms to agreeing with the terms). That’s my best guess if registration isn’t working for you.
