Keepin me fingers crossed!!! Worked!!!!!!!

My wife went to the bank this morn and got a bit of a shock,Our account had been pretty much wiped out…They would not give her any info as it’s in my name…But after a phone call after she got home, We found out that an unauthorized transaction had occured through Paypal Jr…Did not know there was such a thing…Got their # from the bank and after a few miniutes talking with them… They say that my money should be returned within 10 days…

Has anyone else delt with Paypal Jr…in a matter such as this???..If so, Did you get your money back…I’ve been off work since Mar 19th with a head injury…and we cannot, at this time afford the loss…
Thanks all and,

A GOOGLE search did not find a company called ‘PayPal Jr’

Most likely a scam.

A scam for certain. That sucks. Really stinks.

Bill, please promise me that if you need help you will contact me. I am just over the mountain from you. That’s what friends are for.

Well it appears as you gents are dead on…was just in the ebay discussion boards and asked if any of the sellers had heard of them…and it appears that you gents may want to keep an eye on the forsale board in the coming days…gonna be a fun day tommorow letting the wife know…shes been in tears all day today already over this…

Bank said to wait and see if they’d make good on having my money back in 10 day’s…But I think I need go and have a talk with them for their word on this…really not a good time for this…Thanks all…Bill

Bill who is promising the refund - Paypal Jr or Ebay?

I really hope this gets righted real fast. I have had good results from ebay when scammed a couple of times.

Hmmm. Bill, it sounds like perhaps you “updated” your information to a scam request pretending to be either Ebay or Paypal. If so I am afraid you are stuck. Hope it wasn’t too much but if it cleaned you out it could have been several hits so not to draw attention. These things are often set up against a credit card. How did they get into your bank account? If on the other hand you simply have an ebay and pay pal account and somehow someone ripped you off, ebay should make good as I believe some years ago ebay bought paypal. If not, be sure and get an official report as I believe your loss may be deductible on next years taxes if you have paperwork officiating your loss.
Good luck,…Bob

Not to jump in here. The company that promised the refund was PayPal. Not sure what difference it will make either we will get our refund or wont. The card is shut down. We did not offer any further information…only the frozen credit card number. We will be making a visit to the bank, they have said to fill out papers and if our money is not returned in a timely fashion, they should be able to do something on their end.
What a nightmare is all I can say !! Check your bank accounts daily, and no more ordering online for us… he better get a catalog !!

Not only would I be all over PayPal but I’d find out who the money was sent to and for what type of transaction and file an internet fraud complaint at which is:

The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C).

IC3’s mission is to serve as a vehicle to receive, develop, and refer criminal complaints regarding the rapidly expanding arena of cyber crime. The IC3 gives the victims of cyber crime a convenient and easy-to-use reporting mechanism that alerts authorities of suspected criminal or civil violations. For law enforcement and regulatory agencies at the federal, state, local and international level, IC3 provides a central referral mechanism for complaints involving Internet related crimes.

http://www.ic3.gov/

I’d also when you find out where your money was sent file an online complaint with the BBB

http://www.bbb.org/complaint.asp

I’ve been wary of getting a PayPal account but If I do I’m setting up a savings account and only transferring enough money in for the transaction I’m doing and no extra. I’d never do it against my checking account.

Hope you get back all your money, and hope you get better.

The thing is, That I had no bank or any other type of financial info with either my ebay or paypal accounts…Nore have i made any purchases since moving back to PA, at which time I also had to open a new checking account here…I had made a lot of purchases while in NY through both Ebay and Paypal… With no probs whatsoever…But none since moving back here…been doing a lot of looking at a particular set of punches for use with a drill…but, Thats the extent of my ebay account use…

As to how my debit card info was obtained by these ppl is a complete mystery to me…

When we called the ph# givin to us by the bank, we did not get an answer, So I called Paypal through the site…and when we got an answer…we even told them of this and they ask for the number, and said that, It was their number…The gentleman said they would be investigating the case thoroughly and we’d have the money back in our account within ten days…
But I still find the whole deal more than a little feeeshy…

I’ve not recieved any emails for updates of any info…Speaking of info…Thank you very much fatman…

As for my ordering online…Love ya Hunny!!..lol…I made 1 purchase online…To Cabela’s, For 3 spools of berkley Fireline Crystal…Thats my online purchaseing since moving back to PA…Yes, with the card in question…

Bill, I am so sorry for what you are going through, and can’t really imagine how aweful this might be. Please let us know if we can be of help in any other way than as moral support.

As an aside and not to hijack the thread, but I have taken to purchasing visa gift cards at the bank for 2 or 3 hundred dollars to make my online transactions with. I have only had it turned down once, and if anybody gets the number they can’t steal much. Don’t know if it would work for anyone else but it has saved me a lot of worry.

Again Bill, know that we are all still out here for you.

Got an email from Paypal, Stating that I needed to supply an account statement and a signed afidavid… Thats been taken care of…

Upon getting home and looking over the statement…Which My Bank made certian to copy onto a document with Bank letterheading…and to block out all of my account numbers…as they were not needed for their purposes on that end…One thing really stood out while going over the statement…and that was that Cabela’s had hit my card/Account for the last of the backordered items of their order on the exact same day…Not saying this Has a single thing to do with cabela’s, As a company…But I just find this a tad fishy…and wonder IF… One of their staff members might have used my Card # for a purchase through Paypal…as I’ve not used this card for anything other than that 1 order to them…It all just seems sooo very odd…Paypal will be looking into the whole deal…so If they find anything odd…I do hope they let me know in the end…

From here on out I will limit all my ordering to phone, mail, or local shops…Prolly all by money order as well, cash always at local shops…

Bill,
Funny you should mention Cabelas. When we had our 1st planning meeting at Cabelas in Dundee, Mi I used a card I ONLY use for fly fishing stuff & hadn’t used for a long time. I got a call from my bank a couple months later that some company in Alaska tried to run a $.93 (yes, 93 cent!) charge through. Letting it go would have given them access to my limit. they cancelled the card & re-issued a new one. I figured someone had taken a cell phone picture, but now I wonder…ANY company with as many employees as they have will have the occasional “bad apple”. Who knows?
To expand a little on what Bob (Mantis) wrote, I NEVER open a business email…instead, I go to the site. In addition, a legit email from PayPal will ALWAYS be addressed to your first & last name, & I STILL forward them to spoof@paypal.com
Mike

It’s only MY theory, Just seem’s so very odd how this all happened on this same day, After only having used the card one time online…My only real concern is that paypal not drag their feet in getting this money back in my account as it was all the money we had…

I think the wife has been getting money from her parents…not that she’d ever tell me if this were the case…but I see no other way we could still be affording gas and such…let alone all the other stuff…Got my fingers crossed that my doc finially clears me work in a few hours…got the ok from Nurophsyce(sp) doc on monday…and Dr. Pratt was hinging his approval on them a bit…so monday next should get things rolling again…be a very long time getting our noses back above water…

Bill:

My advise to anyone who will listen is to NEVER use a debit/credit card for ANYTHING except withdrawals from a bank ATM.

While I realize not everyone can get a credit card; folks would be better served working on their credit rating and ability to get a credit card than using a debit/credit card for purchases. I know that with a debit card you can more easily police your spending limits and don’t have to budget your money for that big credit card bill at the end of the month; but the real possibility of a checking account wipe-out outweighs that in my opinion. If I had no other choice but to use a credit/debit card; I’d open a separate account; keep a minimum amount of money in it and transfer any needed cash to it if necessary. Funds transfers can usually be done over the phone via automated systems or over the Internet which I DON’T do. Online banking has it’s own set of pitfalls so I avoid it despite the inconvenience.

My friend had his checking account wiped out when an unscrupulous gas station attendant got his card number after a purchase with a debit card. (It turned out fine BTW). After he told me; my wife and I immediately stopped using our debit/credit for anything except cash withdrawals at our bank ATM.

I now use my Cabela’s credit card for EVERYTHING, rack up LOTS of Cabela’s points and I don’t sweat it getting stolen because I’m only responsible for the $50 minimum and I won’t pay that anyway if my card number gets stolen.

Oh yea, Cabela’s is VERY diligent regarding unusual transactions on the card and will shut it down immediately if they see buying patterns that are unusual to the owner.

Finally, I set up a completely different and separate checking account in a DIFFERENT bank for my PayPal/eBay business. If the worst happens they can only get $100 out of my account since that’s all I keep in it to get the free checking.

Good luck getting this mess cleared up!

Just keeps snow ball’in on down the hill don’t it… Had an appointment set for 9am this morning…7:30 the phone rings…big guess who it is…Dr. Pratt himself…The Nurophyse(sp) Doc’s won’t be getting my final test results back till the 24th…and He say’s he cannot release me till he has those…So he had my appointment reset for the 31st…I’m getting very fedup with this whole thing…

OK, so I’ve been lying to all of them that I’m not expereinceing any dizziness…But I don’t think they quite get how badly I NEED to get back to work…

Sorry for this whole little rant…Just when you think things can’t get any worse…

Bill I am really concerned about this and hope you get through OK… If it helps I had real good service from Paypal when I got ripped off so I hope you do too… I did end up a little out of pocket but way better than I thought I would. My details have nothing to do with your case so I won’t bother with that, just to say good luck from me, and I hope for the best.

It seems you have several courses of action open to you. Is there credit card insurance as an option?

 Bill!!! Don’t you dare lie to them about dizzyness! You may need to get back to work, but you don’t have the right to put yourself in danger, or any of the people you’d be working around. There is an abundance of people who are willing to help you out. Let them!

Because This morning I called the bank and my money has been returned to my account…
Paypal made good on their word…Even my own wife thought we’d never see the money again…of course I’m having her withdrawl all of funds from my account and deposit it into her account at her bank just down the road from mine…Think we’ll be going there soon to add my name to her account…My bank should have caught this in the first place…They’ve dropped the ball to many times for me liking…

So all be on the lookout for anything charged to any account you have, By Paypal Jr…Don’t know if thats some sort of subsidary of PayPal for Tax pourposes or what…But they must actually exist.

The company I work for has three seporate names that buy/sell stuff within the company…Guess it’s a leagal tax cheat type thing…

Betty,

Seems it does not matter what I say, They must have a good general idea of how long it takes to fully recover from something like this. As my doc has demeed that he will not see me till the last day of this month and will not release me till he’s gone over the Nuropsyche tests with a fine tooth comb…

Not to steal the thread, but I had this in my email inbox over the weekend:

From: “service@paypal.com”<asteresef@hotxxxx.xxx>

Dear PayPal Customer,
This email is to inform you, that we had to block your PayPal Account
access because we had to upgrade our servers in order to remove online
fraud.
Our terms and conditions you agreed to state that your account must
always be under your control or those you designate at all times. We
have noticed some unusual activity related to our servers that indicates
that other parties may have access and, or control of your informations
in your account.

A quick email to spoof@paypal.com resulted in this response (along with detailed instructions on how to protect my account):

Thank you for taking the time to contact spoof@paypal.com. The email you
reported was not sent by PayPal and is a phishing (fraudulent) email.

<detailed instructions>

If you notice a payment that you don’t recognize, visit the PayPal
Security Center to file a claim. We’ll promptly investigate any
suspicious transactions and you won’t be held liable for unauthorized
payments sent from your account.

Phishing emails often try to get your attention by telling you that
there’s a problem with your account.

I think we need to all protect ourselves by sharing information. I hope this helps. Oh, the email that the phisher sent was very “official looking” - but close inspection of the senders email address is what concerned me, so paypal now has someone to go after.
