Kapok for the dry fly

I have acquired a dry pod of kapok. I understood that it would never sink however the fly that I tied sank on contact with the water. Does anyone know how to process the kapok in order to use it in tying dry flies?

From what I’ve read, you just used the white fibers from the pod, unprocessed. If you google it a bit, it appears this was a fad material back in the Sixties, and I think you may have found why no one uses it anymore. Here’s an FAOL article that you might want to peruse and then contact the author for more information: http://www.flyanglersonline.com/articles/readerscast/2012/readerscast20120702_TomDeschaine.php

We used kapok gut/fur bugs for stocked trout years ago. Just wrap it on a small jig head. Never used it for dry flies.
