I’m going to be in town August 15-16 for the waterfowl weekend at Cabela’s. Just figured I’d holler at you guys, see if anybody wanted to get together and say hi or maybe wet a line somewhere close for some bluegills. Let me know.

Can you tell us where you’ll be staying? I assume you’ll probably be staying somewhere near Cabela’ls? I’m way on the other side of KC about 45 miles from Cabela’s. Maybe some of the guys on the KS side would be nearer. I don’t know where to fish on that side. All the good spots I know are, not surprisingly, over here by me.

Alright, here’s the game plan… Gonna come up for an August 15 day trip to Cabelas/Bass Pro and get a new 5-wt.
What I don’t know is where to fish at. Would someone in the area be willing to show me around one of their spots? Maybe do a late afternoon/evening trip? I’m just looking for ideas as to who wants to do what, not invite myself to someone’s fishing hole. Maybe go fish for awhile, then grab a bite to eat and hang out some? PM me if you want to chat on the phone and I’ll send you my number! Have 3-wt, will travel!

Well, kid, looks like I’m working August 15th. I have to be there at noon, which pretty well cuts me out of a fishing trip, but you still have a few options. steveks could probably get you onto some carp on the KS side and SteveP could provide a mixed bag up north on the MO side. Perch is up that way and tlerm isn’t too awful far away, so there’s still a mini fish-in there if someone wants to call the shot. When you come by the store make sure you stop and say “hi”.
Just let me know what time and what you want to catch. Like Bluegill222 said the carp in the shallows and I have been chasing them. There are lots of other fish to catch also.

I will plan on being there around noon so I can get your help setting me up with a new 5-wt. I’ve been looking into a Three Forks setup… what’s your opinion on that rig? I got that model in an 8-wt this past August and really liked it. Now I’m looking to upgrade the 5-wt.
As far as where to fish, I’d prefer staying in KS if possible that way I don’t have to buy another fishing license. But if the opportunity’s in MO, then I’ll get a license.
Steve, I know nothing about carp fishing. Don’t have any flies for them specifically. I’m a bluegiller 99% of the time. I do have an 8-weight and some 0x leaders/tippet, so if you want to tell me a pattern or five to pick up at Cabela’s while I’m there, we can give it a shot.
Any tyers in the house? Anybody interested in doing a little fly swap when we meet up?

I have plenty of carp flies. But if you want to catch bluegill we can do that too. There are some small lakes that have some nice fish in them.
Someone pick a time and a place please! ;o) Inquiring minds want to fish!
My main thing is panfish, but I’m willing to try whatever. I will have a 3-wt, 5-wt, and 8-wt with me, so I will be ready for almost anything.
If anyone wants to swap some flies, I will have a few sets of bluegill or trout flies along. And if anybody would like some feathers, I’ll bring CDC, mallard flank, possibly other assorted duck feathers, some pheasant… And whatever else I can rustle up!
Maybe we can meet late afternoonish at Cabela’s or Bass Pro? Or an address I can plug into the GPS? I can’t make that call… Someone with an idea as to where we’ll be fishing will have to speak up on that.

For me its 20min to Cabelas and about 5 to BPS . Bluegill are fine with me lot more action. Just give me a time that you will be at one or the other, and how long you will have to fish. Or you staying over night in KC?
