I tied this pattern last season and smashed them. Fished the same nymph all day until it literally unraveled on the leader after countless fish.

Charlie Craven recommends the TMC 921 which I believe has the short body and wide gape that you’re looking for. Nice hook but none of my local shops carry them. I ordered them from Charlie. Love his tutorials. Davie is quite the accomplished tier, hard not to admire the guy. His ties are brilliant and his tutorials have inspired me countless times.

You got it right that time, thank you! That is a very nice fly by the way. It is hard to tell how the fly is supposed to look, up close and personal. If you have photos, please post one, for further inspection. :smiley:

Ah, that is a beauty of a hook…I have some up eye dries I just got in from Gamakatsu…I don’t think Daiichi has any, but I will look…wish someone sold a full line of Kamasan in the USA. (they had the 1330, which I tried to order, but they don’t make the larger sizes anymore, sadly)

Mustad also makes a nice up eye dry fly hook. My favorites for flymphs are sizes 12 and 14. http://www.jsflyfishing.com/cgi-bin/item/HK-045504-0000/54000/Mustad-Signature-R50U-94842-Hook.html . I also like the TMC 206BL that is a 2X Short up eyelight wire hook. http://www.jsflyfishing.com/cgi-bin/item/HK-060206-0000/55000/Tiemco-TMC-206BL-Caddis-Larvae-&-Emergers-Hook.html , though the up turn on the eye is not as pronounced.

Thanks REE. I ordered a pack each of 12,14 in the 206BL a couple of days ago. I have the up eye Gamakatsu. I guess soon I should try that Mustad hook too!

I am still feeling a bit bloated with too much turkey etc.

Here’s a photo of one that I tied on the TMC 921. I’m almost certain this is a #18 hook. Not the greatest photo or the greatest tie but good enough to fool the fish though and I suppose that’s what counts.

I have the mustads 94842 #22-6. They are certainly cooling looking hooks.

I like the hook, and fly both. No doubt it is a fish getter. I have not tried the Mustad 948422, or the R50U, but I plan to soon.
