Charlie Craven recommends the TMC 921 which I believe has the short body and wide gape that you’re looking for. Nice hook but none of my local shops carry them. I ordered them from Charlie. Love his tutorials. Davie is quite the accomplished tier, hard not to admire the guy. His ties are brilliant and his tutorials have inspired me countless times.
You got it right that time, thank you! That is a very nice fly by the way. It is hard to tell how the fly is supposed to look, up close and personal. If you have photos, please post one, for further inspection.
Ah, that is a beauty of a hook…I have some up eye dries I just got in from Gamakatsu…I don’t think Daiichi has any, but I will look…wish someone sold a full line of Kamasan in the USA. (they had the 1330, which I tried to order, but they don’t make the larger sizes anymore, sadly)
Thanks REE. I ordered a pack each of 12,14 in the 206BL a couple of days ago. I have the up eye Gamakatsu. I guess soon I should try that Mustad hook too!
[b]I agree about that TMC 206BL Ron, it is one of my favourites for Spiders.
I am still feeling a bit bloated with too much turkey etc.
Hope you had a good Xmas, and you too down in Texas Kelly.
Thanks Donald, same to you. I am gonna see what I think of that TMC hook. If I like it when it gets here, of course I will get more. Happy Holidays to you both.
Here’s a photo of one that I tied on the TMC 921. I’m almost certain this is a #18 hook. Not the greatest photo or the greatest tie but good enough to fool the fish though and I suppose that’s what counts.
