just waiting

Went to go get my new rod (TFO 8 wt) that my wife order for me. The fly shop had sold it by mistake. So now I am just waiting. Dreaming of hitting this certain lake below the dam for stripers. Look I just caught another one … yes honey I will take the trash out just let me sleep a few more minuites.

I certainly hope they offered a loaner rod since it was their faux pas. That’s just not right to sell your rod to someone else.

J-League;
I had this, exact same, thing happen to me many moons ago, with a Sage rod. Come to find out, from an employee of the shop, (and a very dear friend of mine), that when a person came in, looking for a rod like the one I’d ordered, the shop owner TOLD his employee to "Go ahead and sell this guy, Wilmoth’s rod. We’ve already got Paul’s money so we’ll stall him and order an other one!’

Obviously the shop owner saw the open opportunity to sell a rod and he didn’t care WHO he inconvenienced, (me), since he saw money coming in and he already HAD my cash! I, hope, if your fly shop’s a good one and you do a lot of business there, this ins’t the case, with YOUR rod. But, it sure made ME perk up, when I read your post!?!

When I found out, what had really taken place with my rod, it cost the fly shop a customer for life. Haven’t set foot back into Kaufmann’s Streamborn since!

I guess old minds travel in the same rut, because I was thinking that this might be the same situation with being able to make an immediate sale and to put off the one who had already laid down his hard earned cash. I still say that just isn’t right to do that, but I’m sure it happens more often than we know. I do business with a shop that when a rod comes in for a customer, it is tagged and goes into a special area for pickup. None of the employees are permitted to sell anything out of the pickup area. Needless to say, he has quite a loyal client?le.

JL- what a bummer- i hope you get your rod soon!

flybinder-i would have been one really angry dude! i just can’t understand how some people do business…

Clarkii.

The problem with all of these is that I have not paid for the rod I know the owners so good that I do not have to pay for my stuff that has to be ordered until it comes in. Nice try however.

I have a question.

I dont really understand how it would be sold by mistake? Was the rod on the rack like all the others(not labeled or anything)? Or do they put them in a special area like Joe’s shop?

I find it hard to believe that they would just put it on the rack with all the others unmarked…And if it was in a special area then they must have seen the quick opportunity to make some money and it was a case like flybinder said?

Either way it shouldn’t happen and isn’t right.

The truly sad part IS, (to me, anyway), Clarkii, was that I had been doing business with Randall Kaufmann ever since he rented a rundown “Shack” for a fly shop and the only flies he had to sell, were ones he tied himself.
About 23 years, worth of loyalty, went right out the window over the selling of my rod to another “customer”. He, KNEW, I had a fishing trip, planned and that rod was one thing I was waiting for, to take on that trip.

I, still went of course, I had other rods to take. But it was “the idea” of the whole affair, that made me to ticked off. “Angry”?? Hmmmmmm, we have ladies and others on this fine site, that prevent me from TRULY describing my “level of anger” when I was told “your rod was sold by mistake, by one of my new employees” and I KNEW, from my “inside source” that Randall had sold the rod HIMSELF.

That’s GREAT, J-league and glad to hear it!! But, like I mentioned, earlier… “your post really rang a bell”!

I don’t know about the laws in South Carolina, but I think that in Tennessee you are allowed to sue the fly shop for “alienation of affection” if they sell you fly rod to somebody else…

I hope the guy that got your rod didn’t get a case of bad casting karma!

My friend, you have an amazing wit that surpasses normal human intelligence. I’ll bet you’d be a blast to have in a beer joint with a bunch of drunken rednecks. LMAO

Joe

At least, CALL TFO, let them know how much you really want the rod. They are GREAT folks and will love to hear from you.
