Many of you are probably familiar with the " Fly Rod Dots" but as a member for only a few months I had not heard of them. What a great idea. Just a couple of weeks ago I stood at the back of my SUV and spent a bunch of time trying to dig my leader out of my fly reel then finally ran it up the guides and while picking out a fly the 7x tippet slipped from my hand. Then I had the leader waving in the wind 8’6" above my head…lol. Can’t wait for my Dots to show up. Of course I added the FAOL Dot to my order.
pafisherman;
I use them and love 'em. Gave a bunch out as gifts too.
Jerry also has an I.D. tag for rod cases, seems like I’m always opening the wrong one!!
They are one handy little item. I use the ones that let you record the type of line and leader. Never can remember which leader I’ve got on!?
Gem;
Very close.
I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here!
Save yourself some dough and learn to thread your guides with the fly line loop/knot end of your line. That is one of the first things an old buddy of mine showed me when I was a newbie.
Just put on your leader and tippet, then grab the loop that connects to your fly line and thread that through the guides - very simple. And if you let go, the loop will get stuck in the guides. Very easy.
With all due respect, have you looked at Jerry’s website? If you do, you’ll notice many uses for his fly reel dots and case dots. And they have nothing to do with threading your line/leader through your rod guides. What they can do is keep the end of your tippet from getting buried in your spool.
I’m gonna order some just because I think he desrves to make money for having the initiative to do such an overlooked thing. I mean, obviously any of us could make a similar product to save some cash, but his look cool, and I like to support the smaller companies out there trying to help make all of our lives easier.I wish I had more fly fishing friends, I’d like to give them out as Christmas gifts as well.
Have “Dots” on all my reels now and gave several away as gifts. Don’t have to have flyfishing friends to gift someone. Check out the FAOL sponsors page and the FlyReelDots website. Great product, great service.

The description of rigging the rod was just ment to describe something that won’t have happened if I had “Dots”. You really need to click on the Sponsors link to see what they are and what they do. Most will say…why didn’t I think of that…and they I bet you place an order…I know I did.
Not only is the Dot Man (Jerry Brumsfield), a Sponsor of FAOL, he is a member of of the bulletin board, and good friend to all fly anglers he meets. I finally got to meet Jerry at the “Great Waters” Fly Fishing Expo in Bloominton MN last year, really a terrific guy!
Jerry is one of the small companies, that FAOL helps with major exposure, for their products.
I ordered the “FAOL” dots for my "Beginner’s Only Fly Swap last year, as a graduation present. I have Brumfield dots on all my reels, great way to keep the tag ends of lines from disappearing in among the wound line on the spool of the reel.
The dots make great gifts for your angling friends, and family members.
Just ordered my first “DOTS”. I took advantage of the “Trout” promotional deal, and I even picked out the FAOL dots!! I’m very excited about supporting the smaller companies like this, I just wish there were more
These things (“Dots”) are a neat/handy item.
I’ve used them on my reels for many years. The ones I have are “Tip-Tac” ™ & I believe they were made by the Cortland Line Co.(?), but I could be mistaken. One is still on the side of my old Medalist 1494 1/2.
