Just Old Flies and Stuff

Eric has been hitting home runs with his old flies. The background research has really been interesting. I’ve enjoyed Eric’s articles for a long time, however these Maine water flies are really special. Keep up the great work Eric!

I completely, totally, 100%, unequivicably, without a doubt, surely, in toto, with no reservation, categorically, emphatically agree.

Hi,

I fully agree. I’ve been adding a few of these patterns to my collections, and have picked up a few tying ideas as well. The history is great and really appreciated. Keep them comming!

I’m with Halomidge and McSteff on this one. Eric has been putting up some beautiful, elegant flies. The research and background has been top notch.

Thanks so much! I haven’t been on the bulletin board here in awhile, and was stunned to see this. I’ve got to say that I’m always amazed when I hear someone say they actually read the articles. I guess it’s kind of like a radio show where you just kind of hope someone is listening. Thanks for listening.

Eric
Do you do any shows or demos in the area…especially, uh , say Michigan?
Mark

Hi Eric,

I’ve bumped a thread from a week or so ago (The Cassin), just to prove we’ve been reading them and because of a qustion I had in that one! Also, I’ve been tying up variations on the Mooselucmaguntic; I really liked that one. Heck, I like all these old wet flies who am I kidding?

  • Jeff

Mark you missed him. He did a great demo at Gates Lodge up in the Boardroom on setting wings.

Hi again,

I’ve just tied up a Bemis Stream and I really think this will be a great change of light pattern. It has a similar colour scheme as the Mallard and Claret, which does really well as the sun goes down. And, I’ve always been a big fan of the Invicta, and a lot of these Rangely patterns are similar construction (tail, dubbed body, rib, palmered hackle, and wing), so I can’t see this one being left out of my box. With all the new patterns I’ve been tying up lately, it’s going to take me a lot of time on the river to test them all! Can’t wait!

I hope to be at the Fish-in next year. I’d hoped to be at it this year, but finances just wouldn’t permit it. Next year for sure.
Eric

Eric,

I have also enjoyed reading the articles and looking at the flies. The flies are beautifully done, as are all of your flies. I have often wondered if these same flies might do well today. Some day I hope to tie up a few of these classic American attractor wets and have a go.

At any rate, great job, and its always interesting to read portions of the histroy of the American version of fly fishing.

Thanks and regards,

Gandolf
