July 4th at the Michigan Fish-In

Well, the consensus is that we will be fixing burgers and dogs at Gates Lodge on the 4th. Both Joe Valencic and Jack Hise are bringing their Coleman stoves, so we can use that to do the meat. We’ll pick up supplies at the grocery store in town, including napkins and utensils, some potatoe and macaroni salad, buns and some chips.

All you have to bring is your appetite and whatever you want to drink-just like we usually do. Then we will take up a collection to defray the cost of the food. Of course any overage will be given to Anglers of the AuSable to help defray legal costs to keep our waters safe.

The casting contest will be held after the dinner ("When everyone is stuffed and can’t do
_ _ _ _ ", quote from Bill DeSavage)

Sounds like a winner Jean. Do we have any sort of head count for the MIFI '09? Also, is there any kind of a Meet & Greet planned, or just booze and snacks into the late hours of the night?

Joe,
A meet and greet sounds great, as per your words “like last year” that means your in charge! :>)

At last count there were about 25 of us that I know of. Of course that was just those of us who are the regulars, that have answered my call out to get a count. We’ll be arriving on the first and staying until the 7th.

I’m willing to bring chocolate chip cookies again, however, I am NOT doing 12 dozen!

I’m glad you’re able to come, it just wouln’t be our fish-in without you there.

We’ll have a small grill with us. I can bring a 2 burner coleman stove if that will help. Let me know.

John if ya got the room throw it in and bring it along.

Jean;
I’m bringing my 2 burner “Camp Chef” and full size griddle (32"x15") that will do 24 burgers at a time! Or, a breakfast of sausage, eggs and hash browns for 8! I only need a 20# propane tank as I will not carry one in my car!! Have to pick one up in town. We could do a “Burger & Brat” thing for the Meet & Greet. The Coleman stoves will be great for side dishes and hot drinks. Mmmm, beans to go with the burgers & brats or corn on the cob!! This could be another Eat and Greet!!

Eat and Greet… now we’re talking my kinda language!!!

Will bring the stove too!

Is there any itinerary for the fish-in? I will be at my cabin on the South Branch from July 1st till the 5th and would love to meet you all. I could use some fishing company cause my wife is not thrilled with me searching for Hex by myself. also I have some room in my drift boat for a bigger water float if anyone would like to see a stretch of stream.

Jeff,
swing by Gate’s anytime we will have the “Pavillion” set up on the 1st in the afternoon. Look forward to meeting You. As for a set schedule we are somewhat laid back:rolleyes:
The meet and Greet will be on the 1st in the late afternoon(more or less)

Yeah, I like the “Eat & Greet” moniker myself.:stuck_out_tongue: I’ll be there mid afternoon on the 1st, depending on how many stops along the way. Cabela’s is a must for my license, and to see what they have for accessories for my new toy that I’m bringing for Wakely Lake bass fishing with Deb.

Jeff, stop by Wednesday evening. I’m sure someone will want to float some big water, myself included!:stuck_out_tongue:

May have to buy flies this year as work has been so crazy that I don’t have time to tie. When I have time, I utilize it for sleeping. LOL

See y’all on the 1st.

Hmmm… are there going to be any evening fly tying sessions? In other words, should I bring some of my stuff?

There usually are several who get together and “play” with their feathers and stuff. Bill is bringing his tying supplies. He was just commenting last night that he needs to figure out what he wants to take.

If you walk past the river-side of the rooms at Gates Lodge, many of the tables are setup with fly tying gear. By all means, bring it if you would like to tie. For sessions with more than one or two people, the Board Room is usually available. If there is nothing planned for the room, some folks just leave their stuff set up for the whole time they are there. Bring your own light if you have one. The lighting is only good for 20-something eyes.

<sigh> To have 20-something eyes again.

Sounds like fun. Maybe Bill can show me how to do some of those itty bitty flies. (Not that I’ll be able to see them.)

Well, looks like we’ll be heading out on Tuesday… spend the night in Jackson… Wednesday, drop the kid off at her grandparents… should be to Grayling by mid-afternoon. Whooooooo Hooooooooooooooooooo!! <ahem>
