Caught 5 Grass Carp yesterday. Biggest was this 31-incher:
( I apologize for the open mouth. It was over 100 degrees, I was overheating, so this was my last fish of the day)
Also caught 2 Kentucky Spotted Bass.
And, caught 2 gar. Shortnose Gar are the most common gar where I fish. These two both had a lot more spots/markings than the typical Shortnose. I’m wondering if these could be Spotted Gar or a hybrid, or just atypical Shortnose.
For comparison purposes, this is what a typical Shortnose looks like in my area:
Thanks fellas!
When I was a youngster, my summer jobs were working in bean fields or corn fields. One day it got to 112 degrees F, and we worked all day. Didn’t really notice the heat since we’d been outside in it all day.
But, about 10 years ago, +/-, I got heat stroke. I’ve heard once you have it, you are more prone to it. That seems to be the case, since I definitely can’t handle the heat like I used to.
Also as a youngster, I’d go fishing in the summer from early morning to dark, and not eat or drink anything the entire day. I can probably go without food, but no way I could go without water now!
I have heard that having a heat illness diminished you future ability to tolerant heat. I know years ago (1986) I changed jobs and went from doing fire protection inspections on industrial plant in north Mississippi and Alabama to working in the corporate offices of Holiday Inn, where I was in buildings with HVAC continually. Late the spring of 1987 when my Army National Guard unit started preparing for annual training I could not work in the heat nearly as well as I had in the past. I was actually in better physical condition as we had a corporate fitness center and I had start jogging 5+miles a day, at around 6 a.m.
Yes, this certainly seems to be the case…I haven’t been able to tolerate heat nearly as well since getting heat stroke a time or two. But, I still have to go fishing…so I just suffer, and still try to enjoy it.
