John Scott's PSC pattern....

I noticed in the Winter 2010 Fly Tyer magazine that they have a fly pattern which the author calls a Suspending Leech pattern and it is almost identical to John’s PSC fly pattern. Only difference is they tie in the strip with the hide side up and they added 2 pieces of flash at the front.

I still like and use John’s PSC and appreciate him sharing it…

… and so did this guy, just a few weeks ago. But I don’t recall him saying “thanks”. Hmmmmm …

John

P.S. I know of several people who have independently come up with the same or a very similar fly. Hope all the folks who read about and use that Suspending Leech pattern do well with it.

don’t know that one, but a suspending anything sounds pretty good . . . got a reference ?

Much Obliged !

SMClark,

Try this:

" Only difference is they tie in the strip with the hide side up and they added 2 pieces of flash at the front."
When I saw that in the magazine I wondered why the reversal…so I tied a couple …works better for me fur side up.

And I too thought of John’s fly.

The hook as mentioned by the author may have merit.

Add a cone head, some non-toxic wire and a body of gold flat braid (or mini crystal chenille) and you have a Barr Slumpbuster:

I’ve had real good luck with both flies, but I don’t have to worry about wearing a batting helmet when casting the PSC.

Scott

Well, I think a resounding ‘Duh’ is in order on my part . . . thanks for your patience with my ‘sometimers’ attack !
