Roger Stouff has often enthused over the Jitterbee as a bluegill fly, and I wonder if it might tempt our South African Tilapia species. Any chance of a description - or better still - recipe? Please? Pretty please?

Here ya go.
Thank you soooo much!!
I’ve printed the pattern, and added your URL to my favourites. More news later!

JacquesD,
I have recently started tying Jitterbees with a woven body. The fish like them and they are more durable than the originals. You will need to use Ultra-Chenille for the woven bodies if you decide to try them.

Nice pattern that Roger introduced me to last year. Used it in the team color swap using MN Golden Gopher colors (purple/gold) and other colors, and they’ve all been effective. I’ve tied them on standard dry fly hooks, although the originals look like they’re on scud hooks. There are similar flies. They seem to work equally well. This is what makes this all so much fun. JGW
I tie mine using microjigs. I call them Jiggerbees.

Here’s another URL you might find useful for warm water fly fishing in addition to the Louisiana site. Rick Z. has one of his favorite flies there too among other folks. My Dixie Bug is there also. It has proven effective for me in Florida on bream and LMB.

Jacques, the Jitterbee is a great fly for many species…in addition to bream, I often get hits from nice sized bass and catfish. Let us know how it goes with tilapia!

Steve, Which weave do you use?? I’ve tied jitterbees, but I have a hard time getting the stripes just right, so maybe a woven body is the way for me to go.

Swamp,
I use the “Granny Weave”. You can find the “Granny Weave Stonefly” here under “Advanced Fly Tying”.

Hey Swampy,
I finally got to break in some of those
scuds you sent me on Friday. Very effective. Didn’t get big numbers, but there were some 2 pound red ears in the mix.
Much fun. Fishing them on the new 3 wt
without an indicator. They were picking
them up on the drop and soon as they felt
the rod, they were jumping like a bass.G
Wish ya’d a been here buddy.G Warm regards, Jim
Thanks, Steve!
Jim,
I caught my fisrt Cannoochee Redbreast of the year on the popper and dropper technique yesterday!
