“Flip a fly”

Do y’awl fish it like a slider? Or diver? Just curious. JGW

Hi JGW,

The body is obviously a slider but the
pattern imitates a fry of your chosen fish.
The ones I’ve seen are a bit paranoid and
apt to do absolutely anything when provoked.
They can jump, skitter across the surface,
and swim in eratic patterns. There is
little you can do to prevent a fish from
eating it other than removing it from the
water.G I fish it with small twitches
initially but quickly change up to longer
strips and vary my retrieve. Warm regards,
Jim

Darn you Jim - every time I see that fly I know eventually it’s going to cost me money…

I got a bad feeling this is going to be like the $200 I spent to make $4 Dahlberg Divers.

Would you mind coming up here and explaining it to my wife?

Love those Dremmel Bugs! So light. My first “fly” was the old Hula Popper fly rod thing that was like casting a lead weight. Chuck and duck. Same fly from the Dremmel, well a close proximity, weighs a fourth that. Thanks for sharing on FOTW, Jim. JGW

Sorry Hidehunter,

I no longer make housecalls.G But rest
easy buddy, You can get well involved with
dremel bugs for half the amount you mentioned.G Warm regards, Jim

The only way not to catch fish with the Jelly Bean is to keep it hidden in your box. Great fly.

The Geezer

Jim is the Man!

Tied some Jelly Beans up while FAOL was down. Not nearly as good as Jims, and I took them out this evening. The blue gills just went wild!!! Thanks for sharing this Jim it really is a GREAT fly!

Ed

Hi Pastor Ed,

I’m plumb tickled that you tried them and
that they were successful for you. Dremel
bugs are a hoot to tie and the minnow/fry
patterns have been very effective for me.
I even tie them for a couple of trout
fishermenG Thanks for the report.
Warm regards, Jim

Seriously Jim, If I cast the thing anywhere near a gill he bit it. The little guys just the tail. If I just let it lie, some would smack it like it was filet mignon, others would bump it appearantly to see if it was still alive, if I stripped it a little bit, wham!
If I twitched it the water would boil, the fly disappear and my line would take off.

I beleive that I have just found a new Go To fly!

My 3 year old son, by the way, loves helping daddy make them. I am having a hard time getting any to “decorate” because Sam is having so much fun making them multicolored!
