Jeff's Hopper SBS

Found this on an Aussie site (just a pic, no info); appears to be their version of Joe’s Hopper.

hook - Mustad 94840 #10
thread - Danville 6/0 yellow
tail - deer hair dyed red
rib - x-small wire gold
abdomen - dubbing dirty yellow
body hackle - brown (undersize by 2)
wing - mottled turkey
hackle - grizzly
head - dubbing dirty yellow

Part 1

mash barb, start thread at 3/4 mark, wrap to bend

clean, stack, measure (hook length) a sparse clump of deer hair; tie in, cover butts with thread, tie in rib

dub thread/dub body to 3/4 mark

tie in hackle (original had clipped hackle; I prefer to size it instead); wrap to bend

Part 2

capture tip with rib; continue thru hackle, helicopter end, cover with thread, trim hackle tip

prepare turkey (gap width) quill segments; butt against each other, measure (tips to bend), fold over body, tie down with pinch wrap, trim butts

tie in hackle; wrap (leave a little room up front for head), tie off/trim

dub thread

dub head, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

Scott

Old school pattern. Very nice.
