Today is the sixth anniversary of the day I caught my first fish on a fly - a Henry’s Fork rainbow.
I spent some time refining the Henry’s Fork Furled Salmonfly which I first tied a couple nights ago.
While I was sitting at the tying desk thinking about how far I have come these past six years, it kept coming back to me what a HUGE part of my development as a fly fisherman, a reasonably competent fly tier, and a “beginner” rod builder, FAOL and the Fraternity of Fly Fishers, as represented by the members of the Bulletin Board, have been in how I approach and execute on the trout streams I fish.
With that in mind, I decided to rename this fly and call it “JC’s Salmonfly” as my tribute to Jim, and what he and Deanna have created and sustained over the years here at FAOL.
I thank you for him. I am barely able to function, but I have been reading the posts on here as I can. I read some, then blubber like a baby. My doctor gave me some pills today to help ‘take the edge off’ - believe me, Jim’s leaving us is as much a shock to me as it is to all of you. I will write more soon, but I want you to know FAOL will continue. It may take me a little more time to find some reality, but I have not left you. I appreciate all your kind thoughts and words more than I am able to express.
Hugs to all,
Deanna
Deanna,
We’re all here pulling for you! Don’t be afraid to let us help!!!
I’ve thought about you and JC daily. I’ve been fishing with Jack Hise and WarrenP here in Tennessee lately, and I have greatly enjoyed it. Without this BB that would not have even been possible, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
