Can any of you VA FFers tell me about fishing the James (around Scottsville) or the Rivanna Rivers? Are they wadable? If not, are there liveries? Cost of out-of-state license (3 days)? What about Lake Monticello or any other stillwater? Thank you for any info you can let me in on.
What time of year? Not sure what you’re after (probably smallies), but both rivers have plenty of them. The James River State Park is a great place to target smallies, and there is a place out there that rents kayaks. Name escapes me, maybe I can track it down. I’ll also look into the non-res license for ya.
IMHO there is loads of good bass water out in that part of the state!!!

My brother lives near there in Howardsville, I haven’t fished there other than in a boat for catfish, but I don’t know the water in that area very well, from the parts I know of, it would be hard to wade, but I’m sure there should be somewhere close buy some wading area’s, the James is full of small mouth and right now they should be starting to hit pretty good…
I’ll be going the end of June. Thanks for all the info. I’m sure I can track down a livery.
Hi Raw. The VA nonresident for 5 days is $16. That’s just hte freshwater license. If you’re going for trout in any stocked waters, you’ll have to add another $36. If you haven;t already, vheck out the state website,
