Jackson Hole in Late August

I’m a new member here so here goes. I did a 9 day trip in Jackson Hole and fished the Snake, Gros Vente, and some tributaries in Yellowstone. The Snake provided the most fun with some pretty spunky Cutthroats 10-15". The Gros Vente was very low and crystal clear with tough conditions. Yellowstone towards the Madison fished like the snake but mostly in the 12-14" range. Very beautiful cutts with a nice crimson/brown back and fine spots that put up a fight. A friend suggested it would be too hot in late August but it turned out to be in the 70s-80s mostly and some days fishable in shorts while others with breathable waders. I didn’t get to fish for the big ones on the Flats but I was so preoccupied with the nice scenery around me. It wasn’t about the destination or the numbers…

Interesting to see you listed the Gros Vente. Not many people fish that. It is, as you say, difficult.

A buddy and I hiked up to the source one August…It gets clearer and shallower and the fishing gets tougher as you go up. Beautiful country though.

Theres a pond in the cirque at the top of the pass where the river starts - didnt see any fish in it though - it must freeze right through.
