two-oth of November, and I’m already sick of the Branson Holiday shows ads on TV! Isn’t Andy Wiliams like 114 years old!!! Hope I make it through the “season”.
If I could figure out how to applaud on a website you would hear cheering and great applause. when it gets to bad, go tie some flies.
Eric
Betty,
When the TV starts getting to you, just sit back in your recliner, close your eyes and remember all those friendly cally-pidlers you love so well just crawling down your shirt.
That should take your mind off the ads. ![]()

I’m with you on that Betty. It’s going to be a long Winter. TV sucks and I can only tie so many flies. Can’t even go out and work in the yard this time of year.
I am starting to read some Louis L’Amour. That’s being fun. Hopefully I can scape some pennies together and build a cheap fiberglass fly rod this Winter. I know I’d like that. I’m sure I could find some use for an 8’-3 piece-7 weight this coming Spring.
The light colored caterpillar indicate a mild winter don’t they? Or is that just wooly worms.
The good news is I can probably fish a little each month, at least that’s one of my goals.
I am thinking some new bird houses to be built, maybe some rewraps on my old spinning and casting rods, the current wraps are close to 30 years old and the finishing is starting to look bad.
The Mountain Ash trees around here are heavy with berries. That means a heavier than normal Winter. We’re supposed to start getting snow tonight. Nothing like the N/E, but more than enough.

I plan to dip heavily into my strategic reserve of “Last of the Summer Wine” DVDs. I also plan to get a couple of Dick Talleur DVDs on fly-tying.
Is that a blue-wing olive on my relish tray?
Ed
P.S. Miss Betty, if Andy Williams is starting to annoy you, just picture him as a warty, little toad. Then make it happen.

You can come tie with the group on Thursday night. That might take your mind off of the TV. The only bad thing is that BP has set up the Santa workshop now, but that beats Andy Williams any day. If you would like we can save your seat. A crowd as been forming, and telling a lot of tall tales.
Larry
There is no need to go to Branson to see the Andy Williams show. Mr Williams died several years ago. Faced with the lose of income this would cause his theater manager had him mummified and entered into a bargain with Thoth-Amon and several lesser Egyptian deities involving many arcane rituals and blood sacrifices to have Mr. Williams continue to perform his show. He does this under duress of course as he is now totally into (w)rap.
Give this a try when the boob tube drives you bonkers. [LEFT]The Guinness Book of World Records says “Jumps on a Pogo Stick: The greatest number of consecutive jumps achieved on a pogo stick is 177,737, by Gary Stewart at Huntington Beach, California, USA on May 25-26, 1990. The attempt took him 20 hours and 20 minutes. Gary first tried a pogo stick in 1974, when he and his older brother, Dave, were given a dime-store model by a neighbor. Dave managed 31 jumps, and so Gary “stayed out in the garage until I could do more than 31.” His determination eventually paid off and by 1985 he had set a record with 130,077 jumps in 17 hours, 26 minutes, which he went on to beat in 1990. And the reason for all this bouncing around? “Ever since I was in the first grade I would get a Guinness Book for [COLOR=darkgreen]Christmas every year. That book was my bible. Getting my name in it was like really an important thing to me. It was kind of a childhood dream.”

Thanks, Betty. Occassionally I need a reminder of why I don’t have a TV anymore. One more thing I don’t miss. Do kinda miss the Rankin & Bass claymation Christmas specials, but I’ve found most of them on DVD so it’s much better now.
We were considering a trip to Myrtle Beach, only to discover that all they have are Christmas shows. I do enjoy the Christmas season, but only after Thanksgiving.
Rainbowchaser, most folks don’t know that the Well of Souls has an outlet in Table Rock Lake, but then there are a lot of outlets near Branson.
Betty, do you remember the claymation-like version of Rudolf, the Red-nosed Reindeer? Do you remember the intro of Santa’s elves who were singing “We Are Santa’s Elves”? Run it through your mind. Do you remember the song? Good. I bet you remember it for about 2 months…
(Betty isn’t the only one with low-down, swampy, magic tricks…)

EdD,
NO better remedy for stress than " Last Of the Summer Wine" . Guaranteed to lower BP by at least 5 points per episode so be careful. The best episodes are with , of course, Bill Owen and Peter Sallis , but also with “Foggy”. Brian Wilde.
For the uninformed, available on you-tube.
Mark
I am a huge fan of Wallace and Gromit for which Peter Sallis is the voice of Wallace.
Last of the Summer Wine should be required viewing. I love British comedy. Anyone remember Are You Being Served? Another fine British comedy.
Sorry for the “by-pass” Betty but these are a whole lot better than what’s currently on the tube.
As TF stated, “LOTSW” should be required viewing . Perhaps along with, Are You being Served, Fawlty Towers, Keeping Up Appearances, As Time Goes By, Upstairs Downstairs, To The Manor Born and on and on. Personally have never been a BIG fan of the Monty Python stuff. Some funny skits but kinda over my head ( no great altitude need be attained)

EdD … that was cruel!! This is for you … http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/llama
Guess I’m gonna be the odd ball out on this one… I don’t wanna miss anything this Christmas . .
Don’t wanna go into a long reason why or why not. Just wanna enjoy all that it has to offer. Think I’ll start today, missed out on alot last year cause I decided too. Please don’t read more into this than there is. .

Betty, Dearest, that site is blocked by my firewall. <evil grin>
We are Santa’s elves…

P.S. Last of the Summer Wine is available on DVD via Amazon or Barnes & Nobles. If you are unfamiliar, I would suggest the 1995 “vintage”. You could do worse than watching “Brushes at Dawn” for your first episode. It gives you a pretty good overview of the characters. Betty, I suspect that you would like that series. Yes, they have Christmas specials, but they are rather unlike the ones that you are used to. I suggest to the BBC that they release 6 vintages to Region 1 (US) format next year instead of just 4. Consider it ransom to keep Jeremy Clarkson safe the next time he films over here… ![]()
I hear small native gamebird feathers make terrific wings on North Country wets…
