A couple of weeks ago my wife and I sat behind a lady who wore a mink coat. The coat was setting in front of us draped over the back of the pew, and was a very nice fairly dark brown. All I could think of when I glanced at the coat and it’s very fine fur was what great dubbing it would make.
We’re sick folks, at least I am, and I suspect that quite a few of the rest of us are too.
Bring a knife to church next time. If you cut a patch from the back she won’t be able to see it and everyone else will be too polite to bring up the hole in her coat.
Hello, my name is Martin and I am addicted to fly tying LOL. I do want to say that if there is a cure to this sickness please, PLEASE, don’t tell me about it.
And you didn’t have a comb with you? You know one of those combs made specially for thinning out a dogs coat. You could surreptitiously brush it out and if caught in the act you could claim that it looked a little scruffy and you were trying to do her a favour. … food for thought huh??
PS. I claim points for the use of surreptitiously in a sentence.
One of my best producing flys is comprised primarily of cat hair dubbing - he’s a nice grayish color, makes for great scuds. Pretty sure when he’s called to that litter box in the sky I’ll shave a patch off so I can continue to catch trout in his memory.
It is really morbid but it seemed reasonable at the time. Having had several dogs over the past decades I’ve always collected some underfur (or even some white guard hair from our Collie) long before their demise. Right now I’m too embarrased to use any of it.
Umm, been there, done that. Guilty as charged. The look on my wife’s face when I asked her if she thought the owner would mind if I snipped a little piece off was priceless. She wasn’t sure if I was joking or not (and to be honest, I wasn’t too sure either).
What you should do next time, is offer to go hang up her coat for her. Once out in the vestibule, you’re free to trim the mink from the hem and under the arms of the sleeves where it will not be noticed.
yup it is a sickness… but it does have it’s moments… my x-brother in laws truck carpet was a perfect match for Golden Stones on the McCloud. The more he lost, and he lost plenty, the more had begged me tye… the bigger the hole got in his carpet …he never got it, thought it was squirrels. Couldn’t figure how they got into a locked truck …
