So I live outside Chicago, in this vast lame wasteland of a state called Illinois.
In Wisconsin, slightly less lame because they have trout streams, but still somewhat lame because the drive is 4 or 5 hours, this weekend is opening weekend.
And I have been feeling the itch lately. The warm weather has really made things much better around here.
Is it worth it to drive up for the opening weekend? I’d leave saturday arvo, camp overnight somewhere saturday, and return Sunday night.
I think it might be better to wait until next weekend, when I’d have both days. But then I think, why not do both!!
I guess depending how in this beautiful sport you are, but for me that is no question!!! Or you can ask yourself, do dolphins swim in water? Getting there is half the adventure!!
Being a former Illinois resident and fly fisher the answer is YES, go fishing! I would highly recommend going to SW Wisconsin using Richland Center or Avalanche as a good base camp. The spring creeks in that area of Wisconsin are wonderful. I truly miss fishing in Wisconsin and try to get back at least once a year to fish with my buddies.
spinner1 on this web site is a guide in that area, you may want to look him up.
Bring some warm PJ’s…still cold this time of year up there!!
