Playing around with a standard.

hook - Dai Riki 300 #10
thread - MFC 6/0 hot orange
tail - woodchuck tail
abdomen - deer hair orange spun/clipped
wing - calftail white
hackle - brown/grizzly

Part 1

Mash down barb, start thread

clean, stack, measure (shank) a clump of calftail; tie in at 70% mark

trim butts at an angle, brush with a little Sally and cover with thread wraps; finish thread at point above barb

clean, stack, measure (shank) a clump of woodchuck; tie in, trim at junction with wing bump and smooth with thread

clean, trim tips on a clump of deer hair; tie in with 2 soft loops, tighten and let it spin

Part 2

repeat, fill up to 60% mark; tie off thread and trim

set razor blade on hook eye (to establish belly cut) and push straight back

rough cut

pretty close (ended up taking a bit more off)

re-attach thread, pull calftail back and set wing with thread ramp

separate

post, lock, repeat

Part 3

brush wing base with Sally

tie in hackle

wrap hackle, tie off, trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN
