Inscribing on bamboo?

Does anyone want to reveal what the best impliment is for writing on a bamboo blank? I sure could use some help on this one.
Thanks,

Here’s from an earlier post on that matter.

Having not found a crow quill recently  I still fight using a very fine gel pen every time I build a rod. Sometimes I think that’s the hardest part of building!!

Lotech…this wont help you one bit.
If you’ve ever seen a rod built by Ron Kusse there is no writing on it whatsoever. All the info is on a tag hanging on the rod sock. His name as maker is stamped in the metal part of the reel seat.
When I asked Mr Kusse about this he replied in a mildly irritated vioce “is there writing on a Payne rod?”

Thanks you guys,
I found an extra fine marker at Michael’s. It is listed as Pigment Ink, Acid-free, Archival Quality, Lightfast, Waterproof, Fade Proof & Non-bleeding. I tried it on a piece of scrap and it actually looks pretty good. The rod is a gift for our neighbor’s 10 year old daughter. She loves to fish and has shown considerable interest in fly tying. I showed her how to tie a Wooly Bugger, and she took it to school for show and tell. I’m going to inscribe the rod with;

Her Name 11/20/06
5’ 5", 3 weight
Isaiah 40:31

What do you think?

That would be absolutely beautiful.

Joe … that was also my Dad’s favorite verse. In it, he found strength when he was so ill, and I found strenght when he passed away. God bless.

Hi,

We (and by that I mean mostly David, but this is what I used when I made my cane rod last year) use a similar pen: MICRON 01 #1 Archival Ink, for acid free environments, for waterproof and fade proof lines.

I do like the look of rods that have no writing but prefer them with an embossed butt cap as my chances of retaining the tag are slim.

Nice that there are so many choices, all good.

For gifts, your writng will probably mean a lot.

Sounds like you found a great pen and that you are a very good neighbor!

Kat

 Today is Katie’s birthday, and she got the rod and reel tonight. I would post a picture but I can’t get my photobucket account to work right. She was very pleased. Almost as pleased as I am to know that I’ll be having a new fishing partner one day soon. I get to spend this winter teaching her how to cast and how to tie flies. For Christmas maybe there is a pair of waders in a stocking. Then next summer a picnic with Katie and her mom on the St Joe in Idaho. Giving is habit forming, fun and very rewarding. Happy Birthday Katie.

I use a speedball pen with india ink and a Fine nib.
Or if you can find and old rapidograph pen they work well.
Phil

I like the speedball pens as well using India Ink, and I also use the Rapidograph in the smallest tips that Michael’s has available…think it is a 10.

As far as inscriptions on fly rods go, many of the people that I build rods for want an inscription on them. While I do appreciate the beauty of a rod that is not lettered, I also respect those that want it that way…Guess that is why the Good Lord made apples AND oranges and its ok to like them both!!

Lotech
sounds great.
I sure she will enjoy it with the waders.

As far as writing on the rods.
Gillum, Garrison and Dickerson wrote on their rods.
I find it personal that the builder signed a rod.
