My No. 1 fishing buddy and I spend most warm Saturday sitting a float tubes. My first tube started out with a conventional inner tube as did my friends. He recently got a new tube for Father’s Day with a bladder, which he replaced with an inner tube. We both seem to spend a fair amount of time patching very small holes in our inner tubes, I guess inadvently put there with hooks on flies. Are bladders any better or worse? All wisdom is appreciated.

And here I thought you’d be talking about the difficulties us older gents have with our bladders while fishing in inner tubes and waders. Guess I was wrong.

Re…tubes vs bladders…my first tube was a Bucks and used truck inner tubes …pretty indestructible but weighed a ton…been using bladder types for a long time now with no trouble…of course I don’t smash spiny things against mine like Tim does…[G].
Ducksterman: I had a nice Browning with a 20 inch truck tube. 2d time out I got into a bunch of nice crappie that I wanted to keep for dinner. The more I fished, the lower I sank into the water. Then dummy me decided something was wrong and headed for shore. I went home and removed the tube and pumped it up and found about 25 or 30 real small pin holes right where I was placing the fish when I removed the fly and strung them.
Gentlemen, thanks for the info. I had not even consider that I was suffering from Bluegills revenge.
Jed, that other bladder is a matter of never passing up a camoflaguing bush and reducing the amount of coffee consumed before getting on the water.
I would be remiss if I didn’t put you guys on to a resort just south of Atlanta. If you are going to be driving through Atlanta on your way to Florida or vice versa you should check out Callaway Gardens. I have only been 3 or 4 times but the average for bluegill that I have caught is around a pound. They boast of 3 lb. shellcrackers and a few year back there was a 15 lb. LMB caught from one of the lakes.
