I purchased a R.L Winston Fiberglass rod in 1985 I think it is a 4 weight around 9ft . I want to get back involved with fly fishing so i was thinking about selling this rod so i could buy a cheaper set up . I have heard that some of the old fiberglass rods are verry valuable . can anybody give me information on this rod . pictures coming thanks
I wish I could tell you what it’s worth, but ebay might be a good place for research. Folks seem to either love those or not care much at all. You might put it on the trade/barter board on this site to see what you could snag in exchange for it. Good luck. I love glass rods and Winstons are generally considered high end.
If you don’t get an answer her you might try this site:[It’s devoted to fiberglass flyrods](http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=fiberglass flyrodders&source=web&cd=1&sqi=2&ved=0CCYQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Ffiberglassflyrodders.com%2F&ei=GYmVT8irH8vegQeEyPmKBQ&usg=AFQjCNHv3gEdwVEku5zt0FbM1E8yQnswDQ)
Desirible ? Yes
Valuable ? Maybe not so much.
Also… if it’s 9’, it’s not a 4wt.
Here’s the history of Winston Fiberglass by Tom Morgan
9’ - 4 wt.
The first 9’ 4 weight was built by Scott in 1975 (?)
( Harry ) Wilson sort of sounds like Winston and they both came out of San Francisco.
Just musing, Dave
