I have seen this done on bamboo rods and think I would like to try it. I have built a dozen rods so I have made most of the mistakes at least once. It would be nice to know what I am in for in advance since there are so many experienced buiders on this site. Is it much more difficult than a normal finish? What about the extra thickness for the tag ends? Should I use epoxy or varnish?
You may want to give this a look. I’ve seen it in other places, but none described quite as well as this.

Thank you both for responding. The article is excellent! There are some incredible pictures of finished rods on the site. I guess I just need to set up and practice a bit.
