This is something I posted awhile back on the SoundOff board (July 31, 2006).
Hope it helps.
Hi,
First, set yourself up with a free account on photobucket. This is a website where you put your photos. Then, in your post here, you can indicate that you want one of your pictures to “show up”, or you can post a link to the picture (so people can click on the link to see your picture). The later is the better option because it means that the pictures do not have to download everytime (and pictures can be slow).
In case you do not have an account on photobucket, here is the website.
http://s55.photobucket.com/
Just click the “register now” button, and set things up.
Next, you have to load your photo on to photobucket.
Log into your photobucket account (I’ve bookmarked the log in page)
Click the “browse” button, and this allows you to locate the photo on your home computer. You can add an optional description as well. Hit submit, and your picture should appear in the list just a bit lower down the screen.
Below your photo, you will see 3 boxes, one called the “URL”, another that says “Tag”, and the third is “IMG”.
Now, open a 2nd copy of Internet Explorer (or whatever web browser you use). Come to the FAOL and find the thread you want to post to. Start your message.
When you want to insert a link to your picture, then switch back to your copy of explore that has photobucket open.
Click once on the URL box and the text in the box should become highlighted (background changes colour).
Now, right click your mouse, and a menu will appear.
Choose copy, and left click.
Once you have done that, switch back to FAOL.
Click where you want the link to appear.
Right click your mouse again, but this time choose paste.

And you should see a bunch of text like the above:
If you want to show the actual photo, rather than a link, do the same thing except choose the IMG box rather than the URL box, and you should see text when writing your message, but when you preview it, you should see the photo.
