Info on posting pictures

I believe that I have seen people post pictures in their posts on this board but when I try to do it, the code just seems to get displayed as text like this:

I can paste this address into a web browse and the picture shows up fine. I also can’t seem to find any instructions for this (short of the FAQ) here. Do I have to get set up with the webmaster or something like that in order to do this? My options show BBCode ON.

This is something I posted awhile back on the SoundOff board (July 31, 2006).

Hope it helps.

Hi,

First, set yourself up with a free account on photobucket. This is a website where you put your photos. Then, in your post here, you can indicate that you want one of your pictures to “show up”, or you can post a link to the picture (so people can click on the link to see your picture). The later is the better option because it means that the pictures do not have to download everytime (and pictures can be slow).

In case you do not have an account on photobucket, here is the website.

http://s55.photobucket.com/

Just click the “register now” button, and set things up.

Next, you have to load your photo on to photobucket.

Log into your photobucket account (I’ve bookmarked the log in page)
Click the “browse” button, and this allows you to locate the photo on your home computer. You can add an optional description as well. Hit submit, and your picture should appear in the list just a bit lower down the screen.

Below your photo, you will see 3 boxes, one called the “URL”, another that says “Tag”, and the third is “IMG”.

Now, open a 2nd copy of Internet Explorer (or whatever web browser you use). Come to the FAOL and find the thread you want to post to. Start your message.

When you want to insert a link to your picture, then switch back to your copy of explore that has photobucket open.

Click once on the URL box and the text in the box should become highlighted (background changes colour).

Now, right click your mouse, and a menu will appear.

Choose copy, and left click.

Once you have done that, switch back to FAOL.

Click where you want the link to appear.
Right click your mouse again, but this time choose paste.

And you should see a bunch of text like the above:

If you want to show the actual photo, rather than a link, do the same thing except choose the IMG box rather than the URL box, and you should see text when writing your message, but when you preview it, you should see the photo.

I use photobucket, works well.

If you want to show the photo in your message instead of just linking to it, PLEASE make the photo fit on the page without going off the right side. And PLEASE make sure it is a reasonably small format picture, 100K or smaller. Dialup folks, and we still exist, have a heck of a time loading large pictures. All in all, I much prefer the links on the BB here. Or post a 3" wide shot of the original and then link to a larger format photo if you wish.

For more hints on posting, click on the blue “BB code” button to the left side of the screen. And make sure the check box that says “disable bb code in this post” isn’t checked.

Luck

Thanks Jeff for the photo hosting tips but I think I have the photo successfully hosted and it isn’t outrageously sized, only 28K. My problem is the board won’t seem to consume the img tag. My options say HTML is OFF, BBCode is ON and Smilies are ON. I was even able to edit the original post and make the URL of the photo RED with a BBCode tag so BBCode is enabled. I can cut and paste that red text in the address window of a browser and the picture shows up fine. I also tried to post the picture as a link and I get the same problem where it seems to treat the url tag as plain text. BTW, that little hint on the BBCode button is appreciated. I would have never guessed that was a hot link.

So now after a couple of experiments, I think this board might be having some kind of problem with the URL of the photo or maybe the photo hosting service (which is yahoo).

  1. I can copy the URL of a photo that is hosted on the web site of the TU chapter I am president of and that works here with an IMG tag.

  2. I can try the URL of another photo which I have hosted on yahoo but I have successfully posted on that board and it doesn’t work here!

So does anyone post or link to photos here they have hosted on Yahoo?

Ok, fooling around some more I find I can successfully link to a page the photo is on in the Yahoo album. If anyone is interested in seeing a Roots dubbing machine, here it is:

http://new.photos.yahoo.com/fwangel06/album/576460762347263107/photo/294928803716581748/2

a few things to consider is image size is the picture on a sight that has limeted access or copyriteed .

now as far as posting your photos and stuff use photobucket its simple then upload your pics into a folder then upload them into photobucket one at a time
then when they are there left click on the img line
copy that line and paste it into your post
you might want to edit the pic and make it smaller .

i know yahoo limets the number of people that can visit
a sight so there for you pic may not be avalible after that number of people visit. and some times it’s as simple as capital or small leters in the brackets.
