Funny you should mention that!! Cary and I went on a long hike through buffalo territory, and found a place where the buffalo had bedded down “very recently” (waaaaay too recently to be hiking around there!!), and I picked up enough gorgeous hair to fill a zip lock baggie!!
I was, however, NOT going to stick my arm out the window to collect any on the hoof! Those guys are massive!!!
ooh, ooh!! Buffalo clousers! Bison leeches! What I want to know is did you have to wait for a plow to clear the chips off the road before you could drive through?
…and to think: there was a time when that view in the first pic wouldn’t have been able to see any ground on any of those hills, for all the bison in the herd…

I’ve heard that despite its rough, wiry appearance, their fur is actually incredibly soft. I’d probably go the leech route…if not the blanket route…
I am not at all surprised that you managed to get some Betty. I would have followed them around until I found some! Not sticking your arm out to get some on the hoof just goes to show how sensible you are!
Now if only there were any trout in South Dakota you could catch some on a Buffalo hair and copper or a P.T. with a buffalo thorax or…
