I promise this is the last one and I will leave you all alone for awhile…
Ron,
Very nice tie and a very good fly. I have tied some almost identical and I can assure you that they will catch trout in the Duck and Elk rivers!
I have tied a bunch of different wets and soft hackles. Like you getting itchy. I’m even thinking of fishing the Caney with the generators running. Haven’t tried that yet.
Ron,
If you do, please be very, very careful!! There have been several fly fishermen who have lost their lives fishing the Caney during generation.
Looks like the wife will be safe tomorrow because the schedule shows over 3,000cfs on the Elk and 900cfs on the Duck. I won’t be going around the house looking depressed because I want to go fishing and won’t because it is Christmas!!
Warren and Ron,
Nice looking flies from both of you.
Warren yours reminds me of Pete Hidy’s flymphs. I’d probably make the tail a bit shorter to help prevent short strikes, and maybe a bit sparser. Great, buggy looking body. Is the body spun in a dubbing loop?
Nothing to be sorry about, Warren, your posting some great flies. Just add the recipe so folks who want to copy them know what they’re made of.
I will incorporate your suggestions on my future flies. I value your input and appreciate it. You have shown some great looking flies on this site and I like them, so, I will use your suggestions. My picture taking is not so good either because the body in the picture is not really tannish color. We live with 2 cats and one dog and as long as we love them, feed and water them they allow us to live with them! The one cat is solid black and the other one is black with some white. I brushed them and used the fur to make the body. It is odd that the cats are black, but, the fur when brushed is more grayish black instead of black. The tail on the fly is made by removing some of the herls from a larger black hen back feather, the body is made from the cat fur incorporated in a thread dubbing loop and the hackle colar is another hackle from the black hen back feather with the opposite side herls removed to keep the collar sparse.
Oh, by the way, I love fishing flymphs and do tie a lot of them up in many different colors. Flymphs, wet flies and mini buggers all work very well for my style of fly fishing. They all “swing” very well and catch lots of fish for me.
Thanks, again, for your valued input…
Warren,
It looks like your lighting is a bit warm. Is it regular light bulbs? If so your camera should have a white balance in the menu. If you switch the white balance to the type of light your using, the camera will make adjustments for you.
Here’s my little studio.
Thanks to you for your help with the white balance, this picture is closer to the right colors. Yes, it is a little blurred, but, I am getting better. Thanks for the help…
Nice looking fly Warren. Keep them coming.
Gary
