If you have Smallmouths...get out!

Haven’t posted much as I have been out fishing…about every day for the last 2 weeks…didn’t bother with pictures as fishing time has been limited this year and frankly, unless it’s a beast…I don’t want to be bothered with it.

Anyhow, the Smallmouth are about to peak in their fly crushing ability!

I’ve been using Chart Gurgle Pops tied on #4 Gami Bass Stingers and well…let me say, all the skin is worn to shreds on my left (fish gripping) thumb.

This has become the time of year where finesse takes a break, cast it out and spit, sputter and pop it out…crashing, crushing blows result.

Maybe some pics tommorrow as I’ll have a whole day out but again, if you are near 'em …GET OUT ASAP.

Got out on Saturday on the Thames here in Ontario. I caught what I believe to be the largest smallie I have ever caught in the Thames. Approximatley 20-21 inches and maybe 4 lbs. Not bad for an area that averages 18 to 24 inches of water. We often have 50 plus fish days on the Thames. Haven’t seen the the larger fish for a while here though. Not sure why. Hope to have a great early fall for smallies.
