Idaho Fish-In Photos

I just went through the photos from the Idaho Fish-In from 2003. Man am I CRANKED about this year.
And, yes, I miss Al.

My wife and I are also cranked about coming out to Idaho. Look forward to meeting you LOTECH. I’m flying out and will have limits on baggage. Any advice on area specific equipment or clothing I’ll need?

I look forward to meeting you too. The nights can get a bit chilly, so you may want a sweat shirt or warm jacket for evenings around the campfire. For the most part, the days are quite comfortable. A 4, 5, or 6 weight rod will be fine. I worry about wind sometimes so I often lean toward 5 & 6 wieghts. My go to fly is a huge October Caddis. I tie it on a size 8 or 10, 2XL dry fly hook. The dubbing I use is Aunt Lydia’s rust colored yarn. I also usually bring sizes 10-16 Red Humpies. Last year Danbob used a Yellow Sally and did quite well. Here is a link to that pattern.

The weather here has been extremely dry and campfires have been banned in all the campgrounds throughout the area. Yesterday however, we had a tremendous storm come through region and it dumped a lot of moisture. I expect it will rain a time or two again before the Fish-In and campfires will be OK. I just have a feeling that this year will be a great Fish-In. There is going to be a lot of us there from all indications.
See you in about 3 weeks.

Lotech how right you are. Idaho is burning. I don’t believe there are fires in that are but therre is definatly a state wide ban on fires. We were in the mountains 2 weeks ago and it was very cold at night. You could see your breath. What really sadens me is that Omack is burning. Used to be my old stomping grounds. You all have fun this year is once again out of the question. Oh well there is always next year

Unfortunately this year, as all years before, the ID fish-in conflicts with my own " guys from college,UW, liars, flyfishermen ,consumers of ‘vast quantities’ et al" meeting in Jackson WY. I’s suer love to meet the western contingent of FAOL members and I sure will someday. I hope y’all enjoy great weather and tight lines.

PS: JCampbell, when Denny says " y’all wanna see how we …?" perhaps Sylvia
could take a pass

Joe, thanks for the information. I’ll have to tie up some large caddis…don’t have any that large. However, I did tie some of the yellow sallys mentioned. It’s a different YS pattern than I normal use, but the author was convincing on it effectiveness.

Marco, you need to adjust your priorities buddy

Many patterns work, but that one I think might be best overall. We have a ‘swap table’ bring stuff you want to sell, swap of just share. lots of fun. Bring camera, get to take pictures of ‘Superman’ doing amazing
(but pointless) things with a flyrod. We bring plates and service for the steak fry on Friday night, just is more familiar eating. There is no formal registration, ya don’t gotta do nuthin’ but lots you will.
