I haven’t seen anything posted on the Idaho Fish-In this year. I spoke to Denny a few weeks ago and he seems to think it is during the week of September 19th.
My wife and I have flight reservations to arrive there on Sep 17th and plan to stay until the 24th. We hope some others will decide to come. If anyone has more information, please post here.
Denny is right on the dates. VEE and I will be arriving a few days early to insure the rivers have fish in them, the water is really wet and other things that cohosts are supposed to do before the arrival of the main group. We will also be staying a few extra days to be sure that we have left enough fish to satisfy the locals, we didn’t splash all the water out of the river beds, and so on.
Unfortunately, it looks like you’ll be missing the traditional pot luck/cookout, but you’ll be there for the majority of the fishing, campfire hooliganism and general mayhem. (Actually the most mayhemish thing we do is have Miss Lady chase a stick.)
Does your wife fish? VEE and the other ladies have a section of the river to themselves for a Ladies Only Fishing Day. They usually have a great time.
Thanks for the information, but we have been there before and met both of you. Sorry I’m not more memorable. Look forward to being there for some of the FAOL stuff.
Now I remember! Thanks for jogging the memory banks, Betty. Believe me, it’s the failing memory, not yourself. Also, my memory isn’t what it used to be.
Heck, I can barely remember trying to kill VEE And Gnu last time. Or was that the time before? Or was it… OOH SHINY!
DG
I suspect with the hard times, the turnout will be lower than in some years, but many good folks will be there, and the fire will still be there to sit around, and the fish will still rise to caddis and PMDs and…
My screaming deal on the rental car I had last year is no more. Sigh.
Have I met you at a previous Fish-In? My memory isn’t what it used to be. Also, my memory isn’t what it used to be.
I do remember some great fishing spots in near Lowell and may even share them with you. If you can make it, bring tying stuff for the evening tying sessions in the rumpus room (exactly what is a rumpus) and for the BYOM Potluck/cookout, some form of meat (unless your a vegetarian). BYOM-Bring Your Own Meat.
At some point I’m sure you’ll be invited to test cast almost every stick in the place, be invited to fish with just about everybody (stay away from DG, folks who fish with him fall in the river or break their arm), and be regaled by wild campfire tales of painting buffalo.
And a fine flyrod it is!! Made by one Betty Hiner. Unfortunately, I have not been in a position to use it but once since getting it. I also had Tony Spezio make me a Bamboo rod that is absolutely beautiful. So far, it has not been introduced to a stream yet. I really hated to miss the MIFI this year, but work comes first. I will certainly make the 2010 meeting in honor of our Superman.
Hope all is well with you and yours. Maybe we’ll run into you in the near future.
I still have a fly rod to finish building before the fish-in. Dan Craft FT 9’ 4wt with Orvis battenkill BBS reel and Sharkskin floating line. Built it specifically to fish for the first time at Idaho but I haven’t gotten a chance to work on it in a couple months, with my luck, the epoxy will be curing on the way to Idaho!
Hey y’all attendees of IDFI 2009,
I sure wish I could join ya , however, as usual, the IDFI conflicts with MY/our WYOFI. Mine has been on the books since 70’ and has survived with the expected ups and downs since then. We’re all fellow students of UW Laramie and have kept in touch via this annual event in Jackson for all those years. Once upon a time there were 60 attendees but now we’re down to about 5/10/15 couples from all over the world ( even Toledo). The farthest visitor is from Barcelona and he usually provides us with some great Spanish Brandy and some great Port from Portugal . The guys fish all day while the ladies…all day. The evenings are dedicated to FOOD and DRINK and arguing as to where we all will meet to eat/dine. My choice is usually the Horse Creek Station just South of town, owned by a rabid Green Bay Packers fan. The joint is loaded with Packers stuff and smells of Packer fans. BUT, I do have to mention, I once put a few bucks into a football pool there and TWO YEARS later, the bartender handed me an envelope with $750 . I’m really not known there but the bartender recognized me as the fool who didn’t come in the day after the game to grab his winnings. It was a “squares” thing and I didn’t even know my numbers. Needless to say I showed my appreciation to both the bartender and everyone in the joint and aquired a new view of humanity in general, I may have left with $100 of my winnings. As y’all could probably sense, it’s tough to get away from something like this. My wife and I did try to go " over the hill" to visit with y’all two years ago but the full day drive from Jackson and a full day back doused that thought at inception.
In any case, here’s hoping everyone there has a great time and the trouts are hungry for whatever is thrown at them.
I think Marco just said he can’t make it, I think?? I was looking forward to a chance to get even by kicking his butt in the casting contest! I think I’ll just go up and pee on his porch!
Actually it’s a good thing he can’t make it. I can’t afford to loan him any more fly’s!!
Hello folks. I am interested in going to this fish-in. I’m wondering if Missoula is the closest airport to fly into and rent a car? It’s that or drive two days there and two days back.
The dates are Sept. 19, through ???
If anyone else is doing this gig would you be interested in sharing a rental car and campsite?
Also, has anyone ever UPS’ed their equipment to the Three Rivers Resort? I don’t think I can fly Allegiant Air with all my stuff.
I’m just in the planning stages and need ideas, thoughts and advice. Never been to Lowell or a fish-in. Jim
