Old man winter was howling today but it was good to get out on the water even just for some photos. The old guy has a pretty good icy grip on one of my favorite trout streams:
and some more:
Which way was that deer headed? Up, down, left or right?
Nighthawk,
Are we going to have six more weeks of winter?, because I can see your shadow in the very first photo! LOL!!! Thanks for sharing!
Best regards, Dave S.
Why up of course, the deer direction that is. NICE pics, haven’t been out with the camera much. Can’t get to a couple of my favorite places until the the snow melts.
Thats a nice-looking stream.
Now…the picture of bird (duck) nesting box…I was scrolling down and didn’t see the bottom of the picture that shows the post at first…and I thought,“That’s an interesting OUTHOUSE.”
I just finished my morning coffee…I have no good excuse.
I wish we had that much open water! lol.
Eric, thanks for those pics (about 1 mile from my house). Every time I drive by or fish by that stone bridge abutment I thing of the time my mom took me and by little brothers fishing there (about 1962). We were only there for a short time when we saw a large black snake sunning on one of the large stones…she panicked and rushed us all to the car and drove us back to Newport…fishing trip over.
Deer track pics. If forward is up, then the deer is heading up. Pointed prints in the bottom of the tracks, and toe drags at the top are giveaways.
Eric,
Thanks for sharing your photos. Do you know any other details about the Eagle Scout project noted in the plaque? I’m a scout leader with the local troop and always interested in seeing what other scouts have done for their projects.
Thanks, Mike
Glad to see I am not the only one who has spent many days afield tracking deer. Yes they are indeed headed toward the top of the picture which in this case means they were headed south by southeast. More than likely this was a doe with a very late born young one. Just out of frame to the right was a set of very dainty tracks about 1/4 the size of “mommy’s” tracks. The little deer was so light in weight it didn’t eve penetrate half way through the snow pack. If this is a late born youngster I fear for it’s survival as our snow pack is also ice encrusted. Very hard for the doe to break through and get sufficient nutrients to produce milk.
I will ask the Park Rangers about the Scout Troop that fixed up the old abutments. I will tell you this, big can verify it too, prior to their hard work the abutment was buried in brush, fallen timbers and just darned near invisible. The side I was on has a footpath that runs along the creek. They actually built a small bench there so folks walking, or fishing, the creek have a nice, shaded place to sit along a tranquil stream.
I really wanted to hit the upper reachs of this small creek but since this was a spur of the moment trip I really was not properly dressed for it. I will wait until we stock the creek and get some nice fish porn for all to see.
