Went out yesterday to harass the local perch, and sunfish;
I wanted to try something different this year.
I had tied a couple of white streamers.
-Size 32 hooks ,with rabbit fur ( 3 times the length of the hook )
Had a blast!!!
I never thought that the ultra small hooks would work, but was I ever wrong.
I was a little affraid that the fish might swallow the hooks, but, they were all caught in the lip, or on the upper part of there mouth.
I did have a good sized sunfish break a hook, he went into a small weed patch, and I tried to force him out.
Looking forward to going back, and bugging them again.
Used a 2wt rod, with 2 pound test tippet.
Still smiling from yesterday!!!
Have a great weekend,
chris

#32 . Woof! I congratulate you on tying the flies and then getting them on the tippet!
No, you are not crazy, you are crazy like a fox That must have been good fishing indeed.
[I’ve been getting into a little bit of that myself[/url:51a19]

So…what kind of microscope did you use to tie these with?
Semper Fly!
Sounds like a good idea, I think I’ll tie up some, but I only have size 28 hooks . I’m always on the lookout for a better way to fool the Blue Gills.

Did have micro bunny stripes or just the fur?
The hooks that I use are Orvis big eye hooks; easy to thread with a 2 pound test tippet.
The Orvis big eye hooks have a very generous gap, unlike sone dry fly hooks that I have had difficulties with.
I ordered the hooks on a whim, and really liked them; got them directly for the store; on line, or call the 1-800 number.
I make the flies in two diffrent configurations;
-The first is long rabbit fur tied to the hook.
-The second is , A very thin strip of pine squirrel dyed black; great leech pattern!!!
I also use a very small split shot to get it down a little deeper; 6 inches in front of the fly.
Had great fun bugging the sunfish yesterday, they loved the black leech.
Have a great weekend,
chris

Sounds like fun! I think I have some big eye hooks in tiny sizes around here somewhere…gonna have to try this out.
Thanks for the ideas.
Sorry Guys!!!
I made a mistake in the hook manufacturers name;
The Orvis big eye hooks That I have only go up to 26.
The smaller sizes that I have ( 28-30-32 ), are made by TMC; 518’s.
They also have a generous gap.
I will try to post some picks of the flies this evening, with the help of my better half.
Sorry about the mix up.
