“I Have No Idea Why I Bought This Stuff” Swap FULL
Hello, I’m Diane and I’m a fly tying stuff junkie. I have a pretty normal amount of stuff but I swear I don’t remember why I thought I’d use 12 spools of old embossed tinsel, 15 yards of plastic pullchain in 3 sizes, pre-formed foam bodies in grey, four colors of microfibbets (haven’t used one yet), and… well you get the picture. I’m willing to bet there are more like me out there. This swap requires you to use some material you already bought but have not used and wouldn’t likely use if this swap hadn’t happened to catch your attention. Ebay auctions count as “bought.” Any style and size of fly goes. Don’t bother to announce your fly but DO announce the material you will use. Limit will be 12 tiers, including me. All tyers are welcome, skill is not a prerequisite. Create 11 of the same fly and send them in with toe tags (at least your name and name of fly), crush-proof container (biggish since if you send in an altoids container you will probably guarantee that someone else will use a 2/0 hook to create a giant fly in the shape of a mouse) , self-addressed envelope with return postage (no metering). YOU MUST BE ON TIME with your flies. If you send them in after the deadline, they’ll be returned to you unopened and the rest of us will be bummed.
To sign up, it’s first come, first served but you have to say what material you’re going to use when you sign up.

(yes that’s way in the future but some of you might need the time to dig through your piles of stuff and find the stuff you said you’d be using)

I love your swaps!! This is another of your great ideas. I have a bunch of stuff and don’t know why I bought about 1/3 of it. As I go through some of my stuff while packing for the Idaho Fish-In I’ll select some materials to use.
I’m in on this one for sure.
Folks, Diane runs a great swap, get in on this one before you miss out.
Diane,
I’ll play. I have a lot of stuff from Wapsi that was included in tying packages from the Sowbug Roundup and the Smallmouth Rendezvous that I would not normally use. Can I use those materials in the swap?
Steve
I am a newbie to tying and fly fishing so I have a lot of material that I haven’t used since bought. If I am accepted into this swap I’ll probably tie a pattern with peacock hurl.
OHfisherman, if you don’t know why you bought peacock hurl you are definitely a new newbie tier, That is the one material if I could only buy one material that I would buy.
you might enjoy these videos to help you, a couple of times the people tying on them have mentioned that they seem to always end up with a peacock hurl fly on the show.
Diane, I figured this one would fill up too quick for me to get in. If you still have a spot I’d like to ty something in purple maribou. I didn’t really buy it, I won it at my fly fishing club raffle. I was going to do something with red rabbit zonker but Eric beat me to that one. So, if you’ll have me, sign me up. Jimsnarocks
Check your PM Charlaine and jimsnarocks.
Today’s the last chance to join, folks. We’ve got 3 open spots and beginners are very welcome. So are any amazingly proficient advanced tyers, for that matter!
