I Guess That's Why They Call Them The "Shack Nasties"...

It seems as though a few of us are being stricken with a bad case of the “Shack Nasties” as is evident in some of the threads and resultant comments. Why don’t we all take a deep breath, remember what it is about flyfishing and tying that appeals to all of us, dream of better days ahead, and look for the good things we have in common. There is a great article on the front page of FAOL by Neil Travis titled Works For Me, and I suggest we all read it and then agree that it’s okay to disagree, but keep the emotion and name-calling out of it. This site was built on a foundation of mutual respect and every time we think we need to “revisit” something in order to put forth our own agenda, etc. it seems to undermine everything we hold dear here at FAOL. Oops, seems I got caught up in my own retoric, sorry…

Fish On!

Kelly.

Guilty as charged. Only three days fishing this month.

But please, make it stop!

Kelly,
You’ve probably got more room to squall than most of us here. How’s the rehab coming. I know that it made me want to turn in my appendages for new ones after a month or so of babying along. Attitude makes all the difference in getting through life’s bumps and bruises, including the winter “Shack Nasties”. Hey! We’ve got at least 12 more minutes of daylight than we had back before Christmas! Maybe we could start a time plot to track how much more we have today than we had yesterday. That oughta make the time go faster. Or not.

I went out in the yard and test cast a bunch of rods today and danged if I didn’t snag the yarn indicator I was using for a fly on a tree behind me. Made me feel like I was on the water!

I guess I was on the water. I was standing on the snow in the backyard. The Guard Poodle had great fun chasing the “fly”

Do it, do it, please - I wanta watch:lol: the time plot.

 make that 2

It is an unfortunete fact that this time of year causes many to become over run by feelings of being closed in, land locked, traped. Thease feelings are nothing new and have caused the same issues for hundreds of years. Their is something about being traped in four walls and a roof that drives us all insane. Their is no good excuse but it is said to be left over from our migrating roots. going from the cold climents to wamer thus making us cranky and snappy.

Work, at least, keeps me busy but doesn’t seem the help the “Cabin Fever.” If I were retired I believe I’d volunteer somewhere.
Church
Food Bank
Men’s/Women’s Shelter
Schools
Somewhere where my efforts would make someone else’s life a little easier.
But alas, I’m dead tired when I get home from work.

Two words; Ice Fishing.

No more shack nasties.

Guilty, but I feel it has more to do with the political climate than anything.

Politics plays a poor second fiddle to a good hatch.

Ed, looking forward to temps in the 50s by week’s end.

[Do it, do it, please - I wanta watch:lol: the time plot.]

Here’s a chart that shows increase/decrease in daylight time. It kinda hurts my head to try to figure out just where I should be, according to the chart. Then the guy has the audacity to throw in the statement that he failed observational astronamy. Twice. Anyway, here’s the chart. I’m going to go to my room and pout.:stuck_out_tongue:

You gain aprox 2.5 min of daylight per day, depends upon how north your location is.

I can’t wait until we start getting about 2.5 degrees warmer each day

All this cold and snow and no fishing is really starting to get to me and it’s only Janurary. Here in Northern Kentucky, we really don’t have any realistic chance to catch fish until sometime in March.

90 more days and counting!

Jeff

LadyFisher, is this an admission of your own case of Cabin Fever?

<hanging head>

I wanna see it too…

Ed

Just in case you missed it::lol:

Hey, it was getting bad ,but it warmed up to the 20’s and my wife and I spent a couple of days camped out on Lake of the Woods ice fishing. Fly fishing it isn’t , but it breeaks up the winter.

51BC,

I didn’t think anyone who ice fished would use the term “Breaks Up”

I have been out on the ice before when I heard the sounds of the cracking of that ice. Not something that I want to hear again coming from under my feet.

Larry —sagefisher—

Yeah, poor choice of words !

As unnerving as those groaning and splitting sounds benieth your feet are, it really is fairly safe !
Margaret still comments on the first time I took her ice fishing on a nice cold (-30) day and the ice was ‘talking’ all day long !

So, if the ice is ‘talking’ to you is that better than talking to yourself?
Seems this time of year brings a lot of discussions with myself, along with some startling answers!
