Not trout, or even flyfishing. BUT…
I had the day off, so I took my youngest out to see if the crappies were in yet. I just finished a rod for him, and it was his first fishing trip. We got into some, and I just had to post a pic I took after we got home with his first catch.
It started off rough. He got his finger pinched in the door when we stopped for a doughnut on the way out, but he eventually shook it off and we had a great day on the lake. The smile says it all.
I’ll probably have to take his older brother and sister out when they get home from school.
Ol’ Blue, That is awsome!
Taking my son fishing (he’s 4 Y/O now) last year reignited a passion for fishing in me. We all get a little excited when we catch a fish - O.K. maybe ALOT excited, but it’s truely special to see the excitement in a little one when they catch one. Or better yet, the excitement in anticipation of going fishing. It starts a day or two before, reaching a peak as we’re going out the door. That always reminds me of when I was a kid, and the feeling I’d get before a fishing trip. Like JC said, that picture will last him a lifetime.

P.S. They sure do grow big Crappies in Kansas!
Yes, we do have some nice ones. That one wasn’t the biggest of the day, but it was his first. And to balance the record, we caught a bunch of little ones, too. There’s nothing like the first fish.
The quote of the day was: “Daddy, I’m good at being a big boy now”
That crappie is worth more than the biggest trout or sailfish! That humble little fish that others scoff at year-round, provided a day of riches for a dad and son.
