How Many Species On The Fly?

This Christmas marks the end of my 1st year fly fishing. I didn’t go all out fly fishing only, but I caught a good many fish off the old long rod. My question is how many different species of fish have you caught while fly fishing? I have caught:

  1. Largemouth Bass
  2. Bluegill
  3. Redbreast
  4. Smallmouth Bass
  5. White Crappie
  6. Green Sunfish

Every fish that swims, other than the sperm whale and the great white shark!

Bob

Let’s see…

Brook Trout

Rainbow Trout
Northern Pike (completely by accident)
Striped Bass (saltwater)
Bluefish

rainbow trout
brown trout
brook trout
different kinds of sunfish
bluegill
largemouth bass
smallmouth bass
sucker
creek chub
northern pike
warmouth

Good afternoon all, including those deep in ice and snow.

Myself, I have only caught a few different types on fish on fly and instead of chasing numbers of different types decided many years ago, to just chase a couple of different types and become ‘good’ at finding and tricking these selected fish to take a fly.

Kind regards,
UB
PS While I lay in the pool drinking ice cold beer, I think of you all deep in the coldest snow and ice…maybe.

This year I caught all five Pacific salmon in Alaska; king, silver, chum, red and pink. Also caught rainbows, dollies, arctic char, lake trout and grayling.

In saltwater I caught lingcod, greenling, halibut and several flavors of rockfish.

Some years I get to fish for many more species…

I’ve mainly warmwater fly fished but here’s a list of stuff I remember;

Largemouth bass
Smallmouth bass
Spotted bass
Striper
Hybrid bass
White bass

and a few species of minnows, chubs etc.

Don’t really plan on expanding the list just making the ones on the list bigger.

Go catch a fish,

Gary

15 years of fly fishing. 77 species by my count, 35 of them in my local area. 25 others were on one trip to Australia. Fishing the saltwater obviously provides access to more species. I may have missed a couple. I’d be happy if the only fish on the list was bluegill.
