Well, call me crazy, but I just bought another canoe. I’ll be giving my new “Rogue River” 14 footer a work out. Or should I say it will be giving me a work out.

" All gave some, some gave all. Some stood through for the red, white and blue and some had to fall. If you ever think of me, think of all your liberties and recall, Some gave all". Thanks to Billy Ray Cyrus and all our fallen soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines.
American veteran and proud of it!
My son is home with his wife (lives 12 hours away) and we are having a shower for her. It will be our first grandchild - it’s a girl! My other two daughters came home, one took some time this morning to head to the creek, caught and released one brown trout. The other daughter helped mom decorate and my son and I attempted to bag a spring gobbler(only called in a coyote - let him go). Tomorrow, a great day at church with the whole family, followed by a shower for the ladies and lasagna lunch for the guys.
God, family, and friends - great combination for the weekend. Monday everyone heads home with a smile on their face and in their heart.
My brother and his son served in the Gulf was and Iraq as Marines. Good to have them home also!
This year, like the last several years, a bunch of us Native Vets will head for Olympia and do a little sunrise ceremony at one of the war memorials. We started out at the Viet Nam Memorial , but thought that was being a little selfish, so every year we go to a different memorial and honor those who paid with their lives and limbs during that war. Only seems like the right thing to do.

Gigmaster, Ever try this?
“Hey, sorry you guys! I’m new at this fly casting and not very good yet. I will really try not to hook any of you!”
Then swing that sucker everywhere…
That’s actually not too far from the truth! I’m self-(mis)taught.
I have perfected the 2 casts that I developed, though. Using the ‘Tsunami’ and ‘Depth Charge’ casts, I can now cause any fish to become permanently hearing-impaired from distances of up to 100 yards. I am able raise such a large swell with my line that I’m starting to attract surfers…
I just returned from another trip to my local stream, Holly Creek. There was more trash to pick up (I just cleaned up this morning!), and a few spin fishers there, having no luck.
I wanted to try out my Black Gnat that I tied last week. Strangly enough, I was able to cast correctly for a change. My line sailed out gracefully and gently, straighting out and landing with the barest hint of a ripple. The Gnat landed perfectly, slightly head-up and floating high on it’s hackle. Immedeately 6 browm trout made a feeeding frenzy rush towards it…ONLY TO TURN ASIDE AT THE LAST SECOND!!! This caused my heart to stop in mid-beat, and the adrenaline rush to cease so suddenly as to cause a withdrawl symptom!
This happened at least 10 times in a row, where trout would initate a group attack from below, only to turn aside at the very last second. It was maddening!!! I guess I must have tied the fly wrong, or something. I tried 3 other dry patterns, a Blue Quill, Dk. Hendrickson and an Adams, that I tied, with the same results.
Having had enough of this, I switched back to a Pheasant Tail Nympth (also sef-tied), that had worked so good this morning, and caught 8 more trout in about 45 minutes.
I’ve never caught anything but panfish on a dry-fly. I’d really like to nail a trout on one someday. I guess I need to work on either my tying or casting technique somemore. I’m not sure which one is the problem. The fly looked OK to me.
Anyway, it was still a great start to the weekend.
Sorry Ohiotuber, I just got back from the ball game. The Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians 3 to 1. Actually a great game of pitching and the tigers got 3 double plays. The Tigers have won their last 8 in a row and are 15 for 16. Tomorrow is the last of the Tribe games, they get the Yankees next.
Working Saturday night and Sunday night and Monday night so I will just be staying at home. It’s been raining for the last few days anyway and they are calling for rain the rest of the weekend.
It’s 11’37pm, just shut down 2 of 3 pc’s here. Will wait until after midnight so I can bring up the index so it’s on the BB list in the morning. Then, after checking our daily stats, I will shut off the ‘On Air’ moniter and turn in. Be back on by 7am. See ya then. Have a grand time with your relatives and observe the holiday.
We spent yesterday(27 May) up in Grayling, checking out the Quilt Shop, The Fly Factory, Gates, Kneff Lake Campground, and Spikes. The folks at the Quilt Shop were real friendly and helped Jean spend $$$. The Fly Factory folks were… lets just say I’ve had better service at Wally World. Couldnt find any body at the Campground to answer any questions. Spikes, the food was good(your normal bar food) the service was execellent and everybody real friendly. Now for Gates I’ve had exceptional service at Cabelas, Lunkers, and other shops("crappy service to see above), However the The People at Gates went so far beyond what I call Great service I was amazed. All in All it was a great way to spend(and I dont care what my 37 year old daughter says) My 16th Birthday.
Do not pay attention to my wife either.
Bill
DONT FORGET THE MICHIGAN FISH-IN
Remembering those who gave all for this country including my brother, who was killed in action on May 26, 1967 in Vietnam, and 26 friends whose names are on the Vietnam Memorial, “The Wall”.
Quietly…I’m new here, so I will probably lurk most of the time…tomorrow, I perform at the Memorial Day Service and play taps…I’m also a member of the “Buglers Across America”…I think it is VERY important that a LIVE bugler be at military funerals…if at all possible. So members of BAA are on call 24/7.
If I’m up for the drive to the National Cemetery in Bourne, I’ll visit my parents and Uncles graves. I’m still on post-op narcotics so it’s up to how the shoulder feeling the morning. I got a couple of boating invites, but can’t risk it. Trying to get my 14 year old to accept a party invitation so I’m not a ‘wet blanket’ for his long weekend - cause I can’t muster the enthusiasm to do a cookout here…
We were at Henry’s Lake camping and fishing, but the fishing was slow and snowy and the trailer sprung a leak and the wife and daughter wanted to go home so here I am, drier and warmer.
Attending a barbecue at some friends’ house, sitting down with the other members of my church and working out how we are going to get our new building going. Oh, and I will be fly fishing in the lake behind their house a good bit as well.
I need to close by expressing my thanks to the veterans who gave so that we can have this great country.

just wanted to thank all of those who reminded me that this is a holiday to reflect upon those in arms who sacrificed so much for our country. Too easily do we see it as just another day off from work that we forget the holiday’s meaning.
In sincere gratitude to those in uniform,
Scott

Teastick - I’m with you. We also must remember those who served and those who gave the ultimate sacriface. Having left Oregon for these past six years, it is hard on memorial day to be away from my fallen comarades who are buried in Willimatte National Cemetary in S.E. Portland. I still honor them away from their gravesite and it is always hard to hold back a tear. They were so young and full of life. I am now getting old and wish I could see them just one more time. Julious, Slim and Rick…you are not forgotten, God Bless America.
