As part of my homeowners policy, I’ve been able to “schedule” fine art, jewelry, and bicycles against theft and loss, and these items would not be subject to the deductable. I tried to schedule a high-end fly rod, but was told that such items cannot be scheduled. Is this an industry-wide policy? Has anyone successfully insured their rod against theft or loss?
My State Farm insurance policy covers any
lost items from my home at todays replacement cost without deductions for age.
Came in quite handy when my work shop was
cleaned out.G My agent accepted the
manuals for all of my equipment (which I
always keep in a binder) as proof of
ownership. Warm regards, Jim
If your homeowners insurance policy does not cover theft of any item I’d get a new insurance company.

Another question that might be worth asking: Will you be penalized for a claim against a theft, etc. I had a bicycle stolen from the attached garage and got reimbursed minus deductable. But the agent informed me that another similar claim would result in policy cancelation. Um, what’s insurance for again?
Hi everyone, thanks for all your replies. One thing to clarify is that the homeowner insurance does cover everything stolen from my house, subject to a deductable. The advantage of scheduling is that it covers theft (e.g bikes) outside the house, and loss of the ring in a hotel drain. I wanted to protect the fly rod in the same way, but so far, no luck.
